At 18 I would have gone bonkers finding a plant like that and we didnt have the internet in 1980. My guess is you are here for information. I'm gonna risk saying it again .... how do you "find" a 5.5ft plant on a residential street, in a residential neighbourhhod, near the sidewalk. To be that tall is would have HAD to be there for some period of time .... and all the other time ... people and everyone walking on by noticing nuthin? I don't get it? It sprang up outta the ground to reach 5.5ft without ANYONE noticing? Wow .... that's puts into perspective the lives of all the folks involved .... whew ... now I understand.
