High.. If using Bottled water from store NO.. I went through 2 harvests using FF soil Bottled water in thoes 2.5 gal bottles.. But it got expensive.. so I use TAP NOW.. and if using anything OTHER THAN purified bottled water you WILL need a PH pen.

FFOF has been wonderful to me, I use general hydro for my indicator and up and down, but yeah bottled water you dont have to worry about, tap definately need to watch the ph

Here is a little trick i use to keep my plants watered, I place 1-2" of hydroton on top of my soil, this prevents excessive evaporation from the soil surface and lets me water and leave my plants for up to a week without killing them, though I wouldnt suggest leaving them this long.

also hydraton on the top prevents caves and holes being dug into the dirt when watering..

Yea. Im using roots organic now.. FF ocean forest seems to, *When 1st being watered right out of bag... IT SHRINKS and compacts ALOT... Roots organics stays the Same amount even after the 1st watering... it doesnt make it turn to SLUSH AND Squish together

Thanks for the info guys, I will def be adding a layer of hydroton to the top of the pots. Would you still have to check the PH of your tap water even if you let it sit out over a 24hour period before using it?

My opinion is "FUKK Ocean Forest!...and Happy Frog, too!!" What if I told you all it's not a soil and that it's more of a compost! Look on the back of the bag the 1st ingredient is composted forest humus like 55% or so if I'm not mistaken, so it is mostly compost. My main reason I fukn hate it is that shit gave me Root Aphids, look these fockers up and learn the symptoms there's a fukn outbreak going on or something, when I go to the grow store mofos ain't asking how to kill spider mites they asking how to fukk with these, the worst shit I ever faced in almost 23 yrs of growing, those mofos survive shit better than cockroaches, their like some kind of underground spider mite or something, some even have wings and look like gnats, they're asexually and have live births; no need for a mate and no eggs, neem and pyrethrin based products don't do shit and this wasn't just no two or three bag purchase either, that was out of several bags from different stores in my area took me actually seeing them come up out of a couple fresh bags to realize it had been the soil...I mean compost that was the problem.

Most people will burn their plants using it because they treat it like it's regular soil instead of compost with soil, which was a different set of rules when it comes to watering and feeding. IMO the majority of people who have any real success with it mix it with some other kind of soil or add a ton of perlite.

P.S. Ever notice that hard crusty layer that forms after you water OF and HF a couple good times, I don't get that in any other soil I use store bought or homemade.

Yes you will need to PH it cause everyones tap is different... and Symbio their are more ppl who have had fine harvests with 100% ocean forest, I am one. I also have a PLANT growing well in PURE STEER MANURE, and it says on the BAG DO NOT PLANT DIRECTLY IN MANURE.. Did it anyways and no issues yet. going on 2 weeks

Well I got a 100% infestation, I'll buy their dry nutes, but that's it. I'm not saying you can't get good results in it by no means I've used it, what I am saying is their are far better products with even better results and less hassles for all growers in general, not just us seasoned vets; a newb and OF can spell disaster more times than not!

Promix is great, when you feed your plants you know EXACTLY what your giving them.. And 1 bail of promix expands out to equal 4 bags of OF, and it's only usually around $30-40

I remember reading an article years ago talking about Ocean Forest soil. Basically, FFOF was once a very high quality soil. Then, the company grew rapidly in size and that caused them to lose quality in the dirt they used. According to the owner of Fox Farms, they now use basic landfill dirt in their soil. Which, is the reason it packs down like mud after a few waterings.

My recommendation for using Fox Farm Ocean Forest soil would be to mix it with something else like Coco. A mix like this would work well:

40 % Fox Farm Ocean Forest

30% Canna Coco

30% Perlite

The Coco should give it that sponginess that you want in the soil without losing the beneficial bacteria and additives that the FFOF soil provides. Ocean Forest is good stuff. Just make sure you amend it before using. That's my opinion.
