Fox Farm Soil Question!!

I use FFOF soil mixed with 2/3 parts FFOF, 1/3 parts perlite and 1 TBSP lime/gallon. I start my seedlings in 1 gallon pots and transplant to 5 gallon containers. I also use the complete FF nute line.

As noted above, when you transplant at the 3 - 5 week mark, do not feed if you are transplanting into FFOF soil for another couple of weeks. As some have said, you may make it through to flowering before you need to add nutes. You will notice you girls will begin to turn a lighter color of green and slowing in growth, this means they are hungry. Watch this closely, you don't want them to starve.

When you do feed... start off light on the nutes, perhaps 1/2 strength and then build up from there. You should alternate between nutes and water. I would suggest adding some unsulferized Molasses to the water.

This is just my 2 cents.... hope it helps.

Will do! Really appreciate the response, I have a grow journal going if interested. Also I will be looking into the molasses. Thanks for the help!

ffof soil user here.
when my clones are ready to pot, they go directly into solo cups with FFOF (amended)
when I uppot my solo cups, they do directly into 3 gal with FFOF (amended) and microhaizae(sp) and finish out in 3 gal pots.
I amend my soil with large perlite and 1 cup powdered dolomite lime per BAG of FFOF soil.

I veg for 8 weeks, I feed (nutes 75%) at week 5 or 6 or when they show signs of needing some.

in flower I feed-water-feed-water-feed

once the nutrients run out of the soil, the plants deffinately let me know. my larger yielding plants will yellow in as little as 2 days when needing supplementation. then I give 100% nutes and a little extra P and K (awesome blossoms/technaflora recipe for success nute system).

I grow in 3 gal pots and have 6'+ plants.

Great feedback! I plan on using 3 gal pots as well. I plan to veg for 4-8 weeks I guess it just depends on how tall they get since they will be stretching out 2-3 times the size during flower.

I always use FFOF soil and use the Trio as well along with a few Dyna-Gro products. Yes, when I transplant up to bigger pots I always keep in mind I'm getting a lot of fresh nutrients from the added soil, so it doesnt need much for nutes for awhile. Now the Trio isn't especially strong ( not like some can be) and you should be able to get away with a half strength of Grow if you really want to.

Yes seaweed/kelp extract is more beneficial for the roots not microbes.
For feeding the microbes many use unsulfured Molasses once a week at 1 TBS per Gal of water. This is best for "living" soil but will work well if one does not let
the soil dry out completely. Some use it in veg and flower and some use it only in flower.

I too have used cal/mag during every feeding during my last grow and
I had no probs but wondered if it benefited the plants. Can't say for sure if it did benefit the plants but I remember a few members here said that
plain tap water has enough of cal/mag for plants so there is no need to add bottled/concentrated cal/mag. What is your take on this or if anyone else could chime in also.

So is it better to use tap water instead of putting the tap water through a Brita filter?

I transfer to bigger pots 2 weeks before flowering and I use bat guano for extra N at 1 TBS per gal of water during the first 2 weeks of flower to keep the leaves green and to get more stretch but my plants never get more then 1/3
more bigger in size during flowering and I have grown a lot of plants. What is it that your
doing to get your plants 2-3 times the size during flowering? Thanks!

I use well water, dk about city water but have heard the same thing.. Best grow I ever had was using lake water but sold that house and I'm to lazy to walk a 1/4 mile to my new pond. I'm also hoping the bone meal I added will offset the need for cal/mag but we'll see in about a month if that works...

its never worked for me..... topdressing w castings does..... I think calcium is the most important nutrient....

Tap water does have minerals and cal/mag so I would not use the filter.
There is not enough chlorine and chlorimiens (how ever it is spelled) in tap water to hurt plants. A few grows ago a partner and I used one of those large size water filters from Home Depot that connects to your garden hose to filter the water and my plants came out fine. Since then I stopped using the filter and I use unfiltered plain tap water and
my plants still turn out fine so I can't say the filter helped at all. No difference seen in my plants whether I used a filter or not. If you have more then one plant you can use filtered water on one and unfiltered on the other and in the end see if you noticed any benefit to using filtered water and/or any difference in plant growth and health.
I am about 100% sure you won't notice any benefit or difference in growth and health using filtered water. Now oxygenated water using a airstone for a bit in the water before watering brings a whole lot of oxygen to the roots of the plants that they love big time and benefits
overall growth and health of plants no doubt. It also helps rid chlorine but like I said before there is not enough chlorine in your tap water to cause any ill effects to plants imo.
Been there done that.
