hi everyone, forgive me if im wrong but I think this is pretty exciting and can't imagine it happens every day so,
He just told me about this like it was nbd but apparently he has about 10-11 OG 70s genetics seeds he found in the old family home he lives in, in a safe dated in marker from the 70s. He was planning on popping them even though he has no experience growing so i was like what whoah whoah slow down, let me ask around.. I dont think he knows if they're bag seed or the origins or what, im asking him right now what he knows about them. He doesn't get why its such a huge deal, but I want to guide him so he doesn't end up popping them and end up with a bunch of hermies and mixed genetics, if they're even still viable. He knows nothing about genetics and taxonomy and all that, I have a cursory bit of experience but this is way above my pay grade, i just know some of those strains back then are really rare and highly prized so. Obviously if someone saved them in a safe they must have been pretty good, right? Maybe even OG landrace?
I know obviously the safest bet would be popping them one by one and trying to class them, but obviously it would take a lab or seed bank or growery of some sort to find out exactly what strain they are or what they're closest to. Obviously the most likely scenario is half of them are duds by now, so you can imagine how precarious this situation is and im urging him not to do anything rash.
So here's where I'm hoping you guys come in-- is there any sort of site or company you can put me in touch with that has experience in handling heirloom genetics that could help us out here in advising us on the next best steps? Clearly having some original 70s genetics mixed with modern growing techniques or hybridization could crop up a whole entire new batch of strains, so I'm well aware how potentially valuable these seeds are. Just hoping we might be able to get a hand in figuring out the best way to deal with them and leverage what a great asset he found .
Thanks!
