From a growers perspective - Please Advise

Hello everyone, new to the site. Loving it so far, everyone seems courteous and very friendly, I feel at home to say the least. Any who, I wanted to have a growers perspective on a dilemma I am currently having. I have been smoking Mary since I can remember, probably since I was 15 or so, almost 15 years later I still am. A lot older though now, married and with two beautiful kids. I mainly use it now for medicinal purposes rather than just to smoke like before when we were younger. It help me out a lot now with my headaches and back pains I get form my RL job, not mention how it helps me sleep at night. After a long 13 hour day It feels amazing to come home and spark up a bowl after the kids are tucked in, and even better when they leave to their grandmas for the weekend . As far as I know I am very well functioning adult, I own a small business and going on my second location next month. Needless to say the risk of going to the "street" for Mary is increasingly seeming more and more dangerous; which brings me here today. I was wondering if it would be "safer" and less risky to grow a plant or two for personal use instead of having to drive for 2 hours (yes my only guy lives 2 hours away (same guy for 6 years now btw)) and get it on the street. It doesn't even feel right anymore with everything I have going on in my life to go out to the street for it but yet I don't feel I should leave Mary completely, she's been a crucial part of my life and I am a BETTER person because of her. That being said I would like to know your thoughts from a grower community perspective. Would it be wiser to grow a discrete plant or two without no one else knowing but me and the miss instead of going through missions every 3 weeks? Please let me know your thoughts. P.S: If anyone can also recommend a good yet potent strain for a noobie growers please share your feedback as well if possible.

Do u live in a state were it is legal for medical??If not just watch your P's&Q's and for a good strain i would say white widow is a good starter plant it is easy to grow and will give u good yields

Precisely my thoughts man, I feel silly to be honest sneaking and lurking when I am a grown ass man.

I heard white widow is not for the noobies though, heard it's some good smoke though. I was looking at World of Seeds Afghan Kush Ryder Autoflowering Feminized over at Atittude. Seems perfect for my grow space (not too much space , a linen closet ), not too tall and seamlessly easy for a noob. Not too sure about the yield though, I would want to have a steady supply of Mary if I can. Me and the miss go through about an OZ every 3 weeks or so.

P.S: I am convinced my friends. Not going to the "friend" anymore. Time to save money and grow some.

If you manage your grow right, it is much safer than buying on the streets. Also, you will grow top notch stuff instead of the bleh weed they sell you. When you grow your own, you are completely self sufficient for everything except the seeds and buying those is pretty low risk these days. BUT if you do get caught the penalties are much heavier than for buying 1/2 oz of weed.

For a first grow, I recommend a tried and true Indica like Nirvana Ice. They grow fast small and bushy plants which are tolerant of mistakes. In fact for a first grow I think one of the new automatic strains would be ideal. I just grew some Greenomatics. They were done at 65 days from planting the seeds. Very easy to grow and a great smoke.

I haven't checked out the Auto Afghan Kush but it sounds like a good choice too.

Learning how to set up a grow room and cultivate the plants, is quite a bit of work. But once you are in the groove you could be cranking out first rate dope at an ave rate of 1 oz/week depending on your setup.

Have you figured out what kind of setup you are going to use? Grow space, lights etc?

As many others have found out, you will have found a new hobby the first time your seeds germinate and as soon as they're big and bushy, it'll be like your own personal garden. I love being close to nature, and having a healthy, growing garden is almost better for me than the medicinal effects themselves. Let's be honest, you don't have to worry about the cops finding out and arresting you. That's pretty laughable for an honest man with a wife and kids who pays his bills. I would say, however, you need to take steps to avoid embarrassing moments.

The danger for me is having my 9 year old brother in law accidentally walking in, or my mother in law noticing the smell. It's awkward for me to bring people over during heavy flower because I don't quite have my exhaust set up properly. It's strange when the house is dark and light is pouring out from around the edges of another door, especially when close family and friends have never been in there before I have had only good/great experiences with this but in order to keep everybody safe, you have to keep them ignorant. That means no suspicions and no questions. I'm sure you'll do fine!

oh yea, 50% of all arrests come from random traffic stops. Just something to think about when you're driving two hours to meet your dealer

Thanks for your reply zvuv. That also went through my mind; the consequences are greater if you grow your own but the chances of getting caught (if you do it right and keep your mouth shut) are A LOT lower than riding around town trying to score bud. I also figure the main risk would be the seeds and as far as I have read here and in other sites , the worst (most probable in the worst case scenarios) case scenario would be that they confiscate your seeds and send you a "no no" letter. I rather go through that than having to go through missions every few weeks. This way I get a nice number of seeds (not too many of course under $100) and that would last me for a lot longer than any oz would for sure.

You know I was running some research and found that I might want a bit more sativa with my bud than all indica. I have a friend who has grown the Auto Afghan Kush and says it flowered with in 50 days from seed. Not too bad. He got about 35 gr out of that one plant. If those number are true we would be good with a plant or two every couple of months.

I know I'm complicating your setup, but do you want to take the risk to order seeds every 2 months and deal with the stress of whether or not customs has found out? Keep one plant as your mother and take cuttings from her whenever you want to start a new generation. You have 1 permanent plant, and however many clones you wish to harvest. Not only that but your are COMPLETELY off the radar.

Me and my wife have that planned out. If we ARE going to do this, we're going to do it right. Vent system the works if we can. We rarely have visit over, her family lives out of state and mine ever pass by as well but they do show up on occasions unannounced (as any mother in law who doesn't seem to love you enough does) so we are going to take all measures to help minimize transparency with our grow.

I'm actually just about to order from Atittude my first seeds! I'm so excited now lol . Gonna have them shipped to another location (rented a mailbox) under my name, it seems pointless to invent a name, if they wanted to catch me they will, paying by a prepaid visa card or greendot , not sure yet. Any suggestions?

That would be what I want. Have NO clue how to do it though but if you can point me in the right direction I most definitively will if it means not having to order again.

photoperiod plants are easy to flower. I def would recommend those over auto's. Minimize your risk and keep everything in house imho

don't get autoflowers then because you can't clone them. I mean, technically you can but in newbie terms I'll just say you can't. Honestly dude, just go to attitude and order a feminized indoor strain. I have with me violator kush, super lemon haze, and some freebies. The vk's aren't super yielders but they're only 24 inches tall and the smoke is strongggggg

Hey everyone what do you guys think about Green House Seeds Kalashnikova Feminized for my first grow?

What's being discussed is 'cloning' whereby you take cuttings from a plant and root them. This is fairly easy to do and if you haven't already, you will be reading a lot about it. With this technique you can keep regrowing the same plant over and over again. In principle it's possible to just place one order of seeds and keep your grow going from cuttings thereafter. But most want to try new strains and if ever you have to interrupt your grow and can't keep your clones going, you have to start over. The other point that was made was that cloning does NOT work with autos. The explanation for this is a whole other discussion.

A word of general advice. Keep it very simple for your first few grows. Some people, I am one of them, have a tendency to over plan. Growing MJ is not hard but in the beginning there's a lot to learn. Very few growers get it really dialed in in their first few grows. You must expect to feel your way and allow yourself room to make a fair number of mistakes. It's tempting to work out a tightly coordinated system that will produce amazing quantities of dope but if you have overlooked one thing, the whole plan falls apart because everthing is interdependent. Keep it simple and loose. Over time you will work out the perfect setup for your space and your needs.

For this reason, I strongly advise going with a 400W MH light. (250W MH & 600WHPS are good options too). HID lamps just grow dope. Even if you dont get it right, they make dope. A 400W MH over a 3' x 3' space will turn out 8oz of dank weed every harvest even with some serious fuckups. An experienced grower can pull a whole pound from such a setup and do that every two months. That's an ounce a week! If you spend some time reading the 'My First Grow' threads, you will see that the guys with the 400W MH almost always get a nice harvest while the one's fiddling with CFL & LEDs often struggle just to get a couple of oz's.

I don't want to start a war here. CFLs are great. I use them for vegging and I really like them but it seems to take more skill and experience to get good results from them and they are definitely no cheaper.

ive looked into the kalashnikova from greenhouse and have decided that is gonna be my next grow another good one from green house which i grew for my first was the white rhino you get very good yields from it and its really easy to grow

Awnox- I was in the position you are in now, just a couple of months ago...I've been dating Mary since age of 15 (15 yrs now)...and have felt very sketch about going to the "streets"... I'm a professional in a very respectable line of employment, but use medicine for real and legitimate reasons...I started my grow (fem WW from Amsterdam seed Co)...though not ready to harvest, I know my time in the streets is almost done, and couldn't be any more excited. This is the safest way to consume our medications...be smart, research, and stay discreet...all will be good. Best of luck, and please keep us updated on your grow!
