I like cats. Independent. Dogs not so much. They charge and challenge me while working (just following instincts). They make big turds. All but the hardiest winter inside where I'm at. Animals that have lived at my home are rescues. And a close friend cares for the neglected rejects, all dogs. And those dogs have a little happier life for awhile.

She's only a puppy! I have seen dogs with epilepsy seize and they briefly come out but not for long. Does she have many daily? My bulldog had it. She was on phenobarbital. It is cheap but hard on their liver. But that doesn't matter because what's the Alternative. She needs to rest after seizing. Watch her on stairs. Crate her if left alone. What a shame. Poor little girl. I see you love your dog. Trying something to help her in a controlled situation I think is OK. Research it too.

as many have stated in this thread, you want a high CBD strain, I dont know where you live but if you are lucky enough to live where there are dispenseries, that would be the place to look for a high cbd tinture, I wouldnt give the dog a home made alcohol based tincture, it can do more harm than good, if you know how, try making a vegtable oil based tincture or just make some canna butter with a strain you know to be of high cbd, That used to be less common but now with the new info available about it more dispenseries are starting to carry / produce it as it helps with MS, and sever epilepsy in humans amoung other things so, shouldnt be too hard to find one that works.

And no, you are not a jackass for trying to help your dog's quality of life.

my dog has sundowners... dimensia that kicks in only at night. He freaks the fuck out. panting and shaking. He gets xanax prescribed by the vet. .25mg in the morning and again at night. Of course I have like 5grand in vet bills as well. xanax is cheap as shit and it works pretty good. He still has bad nights but for the most part I can get some sleep. Hes old and gets whatever he needs because he had a shitty childhood while I was a worthless junkie.
I also give him this stuff from somewhere online. choline. look it up.
theres also a bunch of relaxing treats you can get from petco. They have some calming shit in them.

The genius is correct. Look for strains high in CBD. Someone else mentioned making treats for her too. Make budder from strains high in CBDs as they are what are being shown to help with epileptic seizures in humans.

And best thing you can do for her is help her be comfortable. It's all about quality of life at this point. Take heart and make her happy!

First off I know exactly what your going through, YOU are not alone! Giving a young pup any drug is not advisable, they are still developing, body and brain. Studies on children and young adults in the human population show as they get older they are more paranoid and introverted. Now mind you this was not a double blind study but any reasonable person can comprehend the results. I'm not telling you not too, just saying their could be issues down the road. Training is the key...everyone in the household has to be on the same page and remember...its a dog not human, they don't think like us no matter how much you love them. Proper discipline before lovin and treats will go a long way in better control. Sorry been away so long. Well here is a update. My pup is now over a year old. I still make her medicated doggy treats. But not as often as I thought. Seizers have almost stopped. But damage is done. She has a hard time walking without falling but is so happy to run with the other dogs. She needs help in and out of the bed but that's fine. She is on free feed but hard for her to eat so she is skinny but happy.

She doesn't look so thin. But just feed her more often. Separate from the other dogs and give her higher fat content food. I take it the medicated treats have mj in them. Do they spike the appetite like smoking. If she's happy and able to run in her own way perhaps that's the best you can do. Most wouldn't have gone this far.

My dog Wicken had seizures which were controlled with Phenobarbital. I got it from my regular pharmacy and doing it this way cost me 1/8th of what the vet charged. It's a human med. She was on that for 2 years. Did well until she had a stroke and we found out that the seizures were actually caused by a blood disorder called polycythemia. Causes thickening of the blood or an over production of red blood cells. She was 7 when I had to put her down. She couldn't eat and wouldn't eat. Couldn't drink. Went blind in one eye. Wobbled and fell over. Broke my heart. The vet came to my house and she lay in my lap. If I had any of those meds left I'd certainly send them in the mail. She was a good dog. Crying like a baby now. Like it was yesterday and in fact it was exactly 2 years ago today. Carried her up and down the stairs. Lifted her on the bed. and she was big and I am small.

I see people putting their dogs to sleep for the smallest of things.

from what i have seen, stoners love their pets, including me.

My pets are just like my kids. And I don't know if it spikes her appetite like it dose with us. But it mellows her out. When she is hyper she flops everywhere and can get hurt. She still acts normal but not over reactive.

Well I have been kind to animals as that's the way I was raised. My mom and her identical twin advocated and spoke for those who couldnt. We ended up with the dogs others cast away. If people don't want pets then don't get one. But DO NOT get a pet and take it to a shelter because it's not a puppy anymore. Or leave it tied up outside or starve it because you are too god damn lazy to pay attention. And IF you are going to put your pet down......then be a man or a woman and you stay with that dog and comfort him. It's not easy, but it goes with the responsibility.

She has neurological damage from the seizures. Keeping her calm and away from harm is probably all you can do. And when she gets outside let her run and be who she has become. She is still a puppy so she's still doing before thinking. When she settles down and matures some more may makes things easier. How do you dose her!?

I make peanut butter doggy treats. Use canna oil in it. Very weak. I've eat one. No surgar so not sweet to our liking but for a dog just right.

my dog is on xanax for dementia. he goes crazy at night and has some bad days without it. He was having seizures as well and the vet put him on gabapentin for that. i quit the gabapentin and he just does the xanax now.
you might want to try gaba instead oh phenobarbital. doesnt it just make him a zombie sleeping all the time?
