Because they are tightening the noose on us sheeple
why are they censoring the internet in the usa? Isnt it a free country? Dont parents have rights to block websites as they see fit to protect their children? I dont understand exactly whats going on

Its pretty simple really. If they censor your internet, why would you continue to pay for it. I know I won't. As soon as what ever info I am looking for is unavailable to me, my internet connection will no longer be worth my monthly bill, and will be disconnected. Feel free to get rid of your smart phones too, because they are pretty much unnecessary w/o internet.

One thing the gov't understands is money...much will be lost even if only a % of people come up with similar conclusion. Before they take the web away we should organize an income tax "censorship" for next year.

Kinda falls under the category of the above poster. Crappy service, why pay for it... thats just common sense.

It's not that important to me, it's the principle of the matter. I can live a day, or even forever without wiki. They don't owe me anything. But fuck them, their site and servers are fine and they are intentionally stopping me from looking up anything on them. What pisses me off though is that search results keep coming up wiki and I click on them not even realizing it's directing me to a blacked out wiki, and it's frustrating me that I have to either find another source or spend a few seconds figuring a work around to get the info I want.
If you use google and see wiki links, put your cursor to the right of the link where that arrow thing is that shows a preview of the page. You should be able to click on the cached link and bring up the page

So we are supposed to be responsible and intelligent enough to understand both bills and the ramifications these bills will have on the internet and many of the sites we know and love, and should have our voice heard in washington, but we are not responsible and intelligent enough to do so voluntarily after being presented with information?
You have identified the hinge of the problem. Most people are too damn lazy to follow something more than three clicks in. I wonder how many people understand these bills ... for sure I admit my understanding of them is, at best, fuzzy as an old pool table.
Wikipedia's approach makes sense to me. It's an excellent way of providing an object lesson in the potential invasiveness of this legislation. Imagine if Paypal followed suit! (Not that they would. Commerce sites probably feel solidarity with the SOPAcrats.) cn

I understand the protest and the reason for the blackout. But also, fuck you wikipedia for being blacked out. Fuck you big. I do not like wikipedia very much right now at all.
funny how they put up the zip code thing to link to my congress people. my senator is against it and i have no congress person in my district at this point, special election (although both candidates are against it).

so yeah, fail for them.

The Rethuglicans including co-sponsors to the bill are abandoning the legislation like rats from a sinking ship. It looks like both bills will go down in flames. The petitions and protests worked.

I wonder if the big companies will get this thing tailored to fit them and help put out their rivals.

SOPA and PIPA. They want to raise a stink about the bills, so to protest they are offline in the usa. All pages redirect to a black page telling you to contact your representatives. It is making finding information from wiki a real pain in the ass.

Why not just bring attention to it, but still allow access to the site, like google did?

I hope wikipedia blows up.
Did you sign any petitions or send an email to your congressman and senators? Or did you just start a thread on a marijuana growing website?
