In 2003 The U.S.A.'s Government as represented by the Department of Health and Human Services was awarded a patent on cannabinoids as antioxidants and neuroprotectants. U.S. Patent 6630507.

how is this possible?i thought pharmaceutical company's couldnt patent cannabis? but the us govt can? of course

Idk for sure. If they have the patent, they get to say who can and can't produce the said patented product.

and who backs these?

why big pharmaceutical companies of course, the big reason legalization is not being passed is because said companies have multiple patents for meds being pushed through as we speak, so in turn it will be legal for them to synthesize/ and or use cannabis/thc, when johhny public could simply put a seed in the soil in let it grow...

also not sure if you guys know this but these major corporations are financially backing the dea and so on to keep pot illegal so they can make their muniez off something thats naturally occuring and easily available......

So instead of just complaining about it, GET ACTIVE LIKE ME. Call and write your congressmen and senators ON A REGULAR BASIS. Pressure THEM to take action. PARTICIPATE in ralleys. PROTEST! UNITE with others because there's POWER in numbers! NOTHING for our cause will change unless more people unite and fight the govt. WE CAN WIN!

It's a very tricky process that they're using to get this shit through. They are technically patenting the analogs of certain cannabinoids, but the language in the law allows them to obtain them from their natural source instead of synthesizing them. It's pretty fucked up...

So, the US Government has a patent on Marijuana. They list conditions that would be treated with marijuana, why do they tell us it has no medical value?

All these are government entities....so you are saying that it is possible to get the government to take something away from itself......

Now from a totally legal or lawful aspect...how can the government own patents on chemicals be them natural or synthetic for medical applications when in its own law and language it states the cannabis and cannainoids have no medical use whatsoever as per its schedule I classification?

People, people (I mean US citizens)... when are we going to stop talking about "the government" like it's someone other than us? It is actually our government, and your apathy is the only thing that is allowing corporate (meaning private self-interest) entities to exert such perverse control over our government. It's messed up!

Being involved doesn't mean complaining, or funding anti-government (meaning anti-community!) political parties. Being involved means standing up for what is fair for the community as a whole, and not allowing the loudest voices (self-interest) rule in the policy making and regulatory arenas.

Shit!

(Sorry for cursing, I just get frustrated when I see so many good people acting out in such a negative way.)

Um... if you fight the government and win, then you will have no government. Good luck with that one, because government actually protects all of us from those of us who have no concern for the environment or the people's well being. :\

If you believe that we the people even matter then you live in delusion... They have a patent on it, and filed such along side the "Dept. of Health".....Yet the criminals on capital hill say cannabis has NO accepted medical value???
