I got my T-4 slip (Canada) today and I made $40,000 last year. I paid $6000 in Income tax, $720.00 in unemployment insurance,$2000 in pension contributions and $650.00 in union dues for a total net income of $30,630! Fuck man that`s $9370.00 in deductions. About
24%.
Ok..I get free medical and good benefits but Isn`t that alot of taxes to pay?

that's about what i would have to pay without pension and union dues, and i'd have to pay for the medical on top of that.

that's about what you might pay in america as a single making $40k for federal, state, SS, and medicare. you might get some back, but not a ton.

and then you'd still have to pay for health insurance, too.

But you DON'T get "free" medical. Why do you think you pay so much in taxes? People only think it's free cause the deduction they see doesn't say it's for medical.
