Funfetti by Bay Exclusives

I went in and was defoliating today and noticed the growth on these guys is different, like mutated different. It’s like it wants to twist over on itself, throwing nodes out in every direction, and it’s all 7 of them. It’s very vigorous and strong, doesn’t seem like it will be a deal breaker, and at this point I need em to work lol. IMG_4569.jpegIMG_4568.jpegIMG_4570.jpeg

Here we go, week 1 down, coming into week 2, I noticed some tip burn on the funfetti with full strength bloom initiator, so I dialed back to 90% on day 2, I’m keeping it there now that I’m switching back to veg nutes. The SCROG is filling out, my placement underneath was trash lol, not lined up very well, but the net and the light should help them get full coverage.IMG_4837.jpeg

Well week 2 is over, stretching nicely and have flowers in all of my squares…but I cut the nutes down to 80%, they were burning on the edges a bit, and I’m drying flowers in another tent within the same lungroom this week, so my flower tent on the other side was running a bit cool and humid. I figured I’d kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak and put a little 400w space heater in the tent to burn off some moisture and add a little warm air into the mix, well it was a bit close to one of the 2 gush mints, and I noticed some yellowing and almost withering at the tops of that plant. Turns out by my best troubleshooting that it’s root rot, from a bacterial bloom in the media from that space heater heating up the root zone. That and this is my first run with 100% coco media, and I just underestimated the moisture that it would hold between waterings.
So the fix is, immediately took that heater out, put my larger one outside the tent at one of the intake screens, I’m oxygenating my reservoir from now on, cleaning my sprayer out more often, and I ordered some king crab beneficial bacteria to add to the recipe, excited about that.

Got the King Crab beneficial bacteria today and my larger air pump. So the reservoir is aerated, and the beneficials are in. On the bottle it says .5 ml per gallon, and then it says safe at up to 3x recommended dose, and it also says apply weekly. So being in coco and having the media hold onto some microbiology, but still completely changes over far more than soil ever would, I’m gonna run this at rec. dose in all 3 of my waterings once per week, and then midway through the week apply a compost tea as well.

Week 3 is over, and I have plenty of results to report. Firstly, I noticed this on both of my Gary Payton grows to a much lesser extent. The potassium deficiency with the leaf edge burning. I think this is due to jacks formula I am using. I start with RO and then i use ultra violet for 1 week, which is a bloom initiator product that comes in at 5-50-18, then transitions back to “veg nutes” at 12-4-16. Im thinking they want to be between 20 and 25 % potassium availability, so my solution is going to be top dressing small amounts of langbeinite varying from micronized to coarse to give a spectrum of availability and staying power. The langbeinite comes in at 0-0-22, and has a magnesium component. IMG_4937.jpegIMG_4940.jpegIMG_4939.jpegas for the gush mints with the suspected root rot, seems to be coming around. 5 days after adding in Bennie’s and oxygenating the reservoir and it ain’t pretty, but I can see it pushing through.IMG_4938.jpeg

I decided against the langbeinite for now, and I’m going with 1g per gallon of potassium sulfate. This will give me more isolated access to potassium to give me a better idea if that is the beginning and end of my issues, looks like jacks is a little light on the K at 134ppm I believe, and I am at 80% so that puts me around 107ppm, so this should get me around 225-230ppm (very rough math)

Week 5 is down. So I think a big part of my potassium deficiency turned out to bad ph. Of you all didn’t notice I missed my end of week 4 post, I was on vacation for 7 days and I had a friend watching my plants. This friend is reliable and a grower, he did a good job, but my ph meter went out of calibration. It was off by .3 or so, and he went in around 6.0-6.2 at the highest. Also the root rot that cooked the 2 gush mints in the front is unsightly too. Temps were in the low 70s during my week gone, things were less than ideal. That being said I think the funfetti are and will continue to do nicely!

Well we are into week 7, i skipped my Friday post because they have come a long way and I wanted to defoliate all the crispy crusty stuff off of the plants, or at least a good portion. I have settled on the notion that it may have been partially due to leaf septoria that my plants got so damaged as well. But they seem to be coming back as much as you could ever hope for.IMG_5555.jpegIMG_5556.jpegIMG_5557.jpeg

Week 8 down, they are swelling and they are smelling. They don’t look as pretty for the pictures this round, but I’m excited to give this one another go next year.IMG_5597.jpegIMG_5598.jpeg
I think the moral of this run is perseverance, and not blaming your plants for your own mistakes. These are great genetics, I can tell that for sure, just a shitty time for a meter to go out of wack when I was out of town, and a dumb error putting the mini heater in the root zone area.

Day 64 or something like that in my Mojave Desert tent :wall: they smell great, the trichomes look good, they will definitely play…but it definitely doesn’t feel the same as when they look lush through and through.IMG_5630.jpegIMG_5636.jpeg
