Fungus Gnats

as long as it lables gnats i guess and you can use it on heavily flowering plants? for some reason i thought bt was for the buds and if the bud worms eat it it screws em up, didn't hear of it used for gnats though.
Bt will kill most insects in the larval stage. They have to consume it for it to affect them whether they are in the buds ( for tobacco bud worm ) or in the soil ( for fungus gnat larva ). The bacteria must get into their digestive tract or it will not stop them so they must eat something that has the BT on it such as soil or leaves or flowers. A better solution for bud worms is to use confusion lures. You can buy those at arbico-organics.com. Good luck.

Confusion lures very interesting. Have you tried any? Also I gues you need to know exactly which type of worm/Catapiller your dealing with.

To get the adults put equal amounts of apple cider vinegar and water in a cup with some dish soap. They are attracted to the acv and the soap breaks the surface tension so they sink and DIE! We got fruit flies in the house from some produce. The trap had about 1 hundred in it after 1 day.

If you want to keep playing with gnats try the peroxide and the other bs recommended. If you want them gone use knatrol 2 or 3 times as directed and spray with pyrethrin a few times just before lights out
tif there in veg still spray the plants with neem also

i literally just did this, and within minutes had at least 2 dozen gnats drowned

Well, I am having an issue with them as well. I used the peroxide and water and found my plants suffered after. Or maybe it was the fact that they had been watered and then I did this. But these gnats are a pain in the ass

Guys if you are suffering from the larvae in the soil then what you can do is use mosquito dunks dissolved in water, an active ingredient in the dunks will kill all the larvae but will not damage your plants in anyway! I battled these nasty fuckers for years! you need to do this in order to kill the life cycle of them or you will always have new eggs hatching and fuckers flying around.

Ive been battling these little buggers on and off for over a year now.The BTI works but you have to keep using it,and its expensive.
I grow organically so H2O2 is not really an option,as it kills the beneficials.Neem oil doesnt seem to do anything.
I tried sand on the top of my medium, but it is messy, and doesnt allow medium to breathe.
I decided that prevention is better than cure, coz they are in my garden outside,i will inevitably carry some into my tent
on my clothing, hair whatever. Also they love rotting organic material,so sniff out my grow.
A couple of weeks ago i put about an inch of perlite as a top dressing in my pots.
Since i did this,i have only seen about a dozen gnats instead of hundreds.
The gnats struggle to get thro the perlite,in or out.So cnt lay their eggs in medium.
Its a cheap method of control.Better than traps i have used.
But im happy with results of this atm.

Going to deal with them using the mosquito dunks. I have them in my house plants too and they are driving me mental. However, I didn't really care as much about them with the larger area.. in an enclosed space.. it's not happening for them.

Anyone have a sure fire proven way to rid my soil of these pests? I have read many different ways on the forums, but it seems like with every different method, someone disputes the fact that it actually works. I would like to hear from someone who has actually used any method that not only kills the gnats , but their larvae as well.
Mosquito dunks contains BTI which ive used to control fungus gnats in the past. Just desolve one in a gallon of 7.0 H2O and use as a soil drench. Always worked for me.

I couldn't see attacking my top roots with steam. But it sounds fun! I'm trying a new product that I got a recent indoor growers convention called GnatNix. Its basically a human made pebble made from recycled glass. Like DE it cuts them to pieces. It has kept new flyers from hatching in just a few days. It's not exspensive and if you water easy it might be reusable Hope it works as I have had ongoing problem with FN

I do a multi faceted assault on these bastards. The first thing I do is use Zone, a rootzone sterilizing agent(will kill bennies) so beware, then I take neem oil SM-90 and spray the coco to about 1in. I then take mosquito dunks and crush them in a baggie and sprinkle the powder on the top, wear gloves.

If you mist topsoil with an Avid / TetraSan mix you will have no more gnats within 48 hours. Found this by coincidence when spraying for mites.

Careful avid or ardent will burn the hell out of daisies, idk about MJ lol.

I mix a animal fat based soap and cold pressed Neem oil into my waterings. But in the greenhouse at work we spray commercial pesticides. Everything dies within a day lol!

Diatomaceous earth works well as a preventative.
Just sprinkle a slight layer on top of your medium... re-apply after each watering or feeding....make sure it's dry or else it will not be as effective.
I do this with all of my containers.
I always have sticky traps up as an early warning system.
