just how slow acting is it? I just bought a 5lb bag of Espoma Garden Lime to use with my Jacks 30-10-10 because I believe I'm close to running out of Cal / Mag in my soil.... How long will it take to be absorbed by the plant and exactly how much should I be using and how often? thanks...

Hey buddy, I do use espoma's Garden Lime for years now.
I will amend garden lime with soilless for medium before planting. the process breakdown the good pellets of garden lime will take about two weeks to acitivate after you water it ~ 1 tablespoon per dirt gallon.
I do application garden lime in about 6 months if the plant is still there, just top dressing.

Not an expert, but have done a fair amount of reading on it.
Garden Lime is around 34% Cal, and 3.8 Mag (it may vary a bit between brands). 40 lb. bag is less than $4.
Dolomite Lime is the stuff most MJ growers use when making soil/less mixes and is around 20% Cal, and 10 Mag.
I saw one smart guy who mixed the two types of Lime around 50/50 to achieve what he said was good ratio split of Ca:Mg for herb (it's 54:14, but forget what he said good target was).
Of course stay away from the hydrated stuff. Generally folks suggest 2 tsp Dolomite per gallon of soil/less volume as enuf for a whole grow.

Well i dont know about mix two limes as 50/50 ratio. They re pretty same " Lime ". I prefer K.I.S.S. style and believe me , espoma garden lime is good as dolomite lime.
As you can see the label, it does say , its derived from dolomite lime. So its fine to use Garden Lime.
Of course, i wont recommend Hydrated Lime or Quick Lime.
