gardening with huge co2 level?

I have gassed up to about 3000ppm with co2 for some experiments.

I am sick of running in and out during lights up and its so isolated that its too dark to do anything at night.

Will a standard Army gas mask work to go in their during lights up? I am guessing it is pretty unhealthy to be snipping away like aunty Bertle in 3000ppm co2 so how do people manage their gardening?

I'm liking the idea of a gas mask, provided it will work with high ambient co2 levels

cheers for any info,

Dave

A gas mask is not going to help you filter out CO2. If your CO2 levels in your growing area are too high to support human life you will need supplemental oxygen like a SCUBA tank or fireman's gear. I've never heard of it being a problem

thought so, and definitely wanted to avoid that option.

I felt like it was effecting me within ten minutes whilst in there on lights up. Minimal effects notices, but more curious for any data than anything else. I used to like going in their and playing guitar but I'm not sure that is a good idea any more. haha

I'll be careful I guess!

You should Google OSHA and NIOSH standards for CO2 exposure.
I work in a winery, and during fermentation, warnings go off at 5,000 ppm CO2 and we have to evacuate at 8,000ppm.

I hope you have a CO2 meter to let you know when the levels are getting dangerous.

In response to your question I was just reading up om CO2 levels being poisonous to humans and found out about a study where they were having people breathe in 5% CO2 and monitor their response physiologically. They found increased heart rate and respiration, and that was at 5% , not the parts per million you are dealing with. I wouldn't worry about it.

Stupidly, my first resource for a conceptual overview wasn't consulted (ye olde wiki). A resounding no for damage at the ppm I am talking in here. Especially for a mere 10-15 minute gardening session.

"CO2 is toxic in higher concentrations: 1% (10,000 ppm) will make some people feel drowsy.[6] Concentrations of 7% to 10% cause dizziness, headache, visual and hearing dysfunction, and unconsciousness within a few minutes to an hour.[7" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_dioxide)

lets find out. Just been playing guitar in the room at 3500ppm for over and hour and feel fine.

I'm trying to recreate an environment slightly more alien than earth. For vegetative growth it was as good as being out in perfect sunlight in my experience.

They could keel over and die for all I know, I'm just messing around. I will post results though.
