Ok, so you are going after the the DiY market which is probably the smallest market by volume in the growing sector. As was mentioned above by licorice, you will be in a tough fight competing against the existing vendors.

But on the flip side, you can the information you need to sell to these folks. Just don't give out too many samples for grows (I see BM9AGS begging already) or else you won't have a market to sell into.

Sorry, but I just have to rant as some of the posts in this thread is driving me nuts.

Who has proof that 3000k is better? who has proof that 4k is better? I don't think anyone here has done a thorough side by side to be eligible to say one is better than the other. And better in what reguards? ?! yield, canopy thickness?

Some say 5000k is better because of less stretch during veg? sure if you're doing a SOG grow, but not for me, i need stretch with low plant numbers filling a large space.
You should see the clones under my 4000k atm. Probably 7inches high and 30+ nodes/branches! heck i'll show a photo to prove it. And its never had anything except 200ppm of hng A + B (to keep it green).

Someone mentioned a 2:1 ratio of bla bla bla of xxxxk and xxxxk .. any proof of the benefit ?
Another has mentioned adding blue monos and you'll get a surprise, in a good way?? Any large side by side grow journals I dont know about with COBS and blue monos here?

People are giving opinions as if they know more than the legendary growmau5 but i've yet to see anyone beat 1.9gpw.

Apologies if i have offended anyone but just finished a total of 30 hours of trim jail (2people) and guess what?
I used 2 far red spotlights
730nm on one side on entire lights on. No noticeable difference
730nm on 15m before and after lights off.. no noticeable difference.
I used 1500w of 3000k, (only for flowering) and didnt notice any difference.
4500w of 3500k ! , all these buds look the same, dense, fat no noticeable difference to the 3000k !
I used a piece of reflector on one of my plants! wow, lower nugs were great BUT could be due to other factors!

So many empty claims with no comparisons to back it up.

The only test we have is here: https://www.rollitup.org/t/cri-test-and-mcree-weighted-results.919923/page-12#post-13298256 ; it's flawed due to several errors but even still, the 3000k 90 CRI really surprised me (though other growers have noted how well they're doing with 3000k 90). I'd personally love to see 3000k 90 vs 4000k 80 @ 1500PPFD just to see how important the sieve effect+stokes shift is for growing bud.

Did you lengthen the daytime during flower from 12-12 to 14-10?

You should know that even the legendary growmau5 mixes different spectra in its lamps. It's also useful to grow under 5,000°k and bloom with additional 3,000°k to get neccessary stretch. Also far-red during lights on is known to cause more stretch. If you need stretch why not use far-red during lights on?
TheDawg has grown fantastic things with only 5.000°k and far-red as flower trigger(5-15min On/off).
It is easy to tear things out of the context and question them, but do you have evidence that it "does not work"?
Per example, if you use Far-red correctly, it will significantly reduce flowering times or increase your yields. Only because it's not working for you, you can not claim it does not work! Same goes for spectrum mixing

I would say, that depends on how long they bloom. For a 12 week sativa, you can perhaps shorten 6-10 days or ~ 5-10%, for an 8 week indica probably 5-10% corresponds more to 4-7 days.

Yea, my main problem with spectrum claims.
If anything it just proves that spectrum isn't that important, it's all about the intensity and for your power bill it's the efficiency.

This guy is just hoping for free advice and maybe a few impulse box sales. There are already too many companies just like this one, trying to make boxes just barely good enough. They're not gonna put modern, high efficacy COBs inside. Way too expensive.

I am not a cob expert, but from following along the discussions here on RIU, I've found that there is a product that could be made to fill in a gap that does not exist or is hard to find anyway. Cases!

These guys like their favorite "brand" of chips be it Cree, Vero, Bridgelux, Citizen or luminous. As well as drivers/heatsinks and what wattage they want to run. But, they are hanging them naked on angle iron and such. Which works fine really but, I've seen where many have wanted to source an actual case.

Mostly they are running 2-5 COBs on a driver or two. At like 12" apart. So, if you could design an encasement fitting those parameters at a fair cost, I think there may be a chance they would sell. You already have the cases/supplier, you just may have to provide different cutouts for the bottom where the lights are and ensure the case would be set up to hold the different style heatsinks/drivers they use. Or sell it complete with heatsinks that would be large enough for higher wattage chips.

I personally am a micro so a 2 COB set up would be fine for me. About 100 watts because I supplement with Blurple. I've even seen others mention they would consider getting one of the cheap Chinese set ups just for the case, to replace the generic COBs with their own favorite branded COBs.

Just an idea.

But was does lower nugss mean when the plants are only 12" from tops to soil?
