Re the late day watering: Maybe that's what turned her into a hermie.

Break off a fan leaf, then cut into the stem and taste the fluid at the cut. It should taste "clean" like water, not bitter or nasty. If it doesn't taste clean, you need to flush again.
As far as the herming goes, for whatever reason all of my genetics other than the 2 bagseeds i'm growing hermed slightly in the first 2-3 weeks of flower, then stopped popping nanners until this one just did. And I was fortunate to have an experienced grower over when I chopped, and he did the leaf taste test and said that it tasted clean (But he didn't test a leaf from this specific plant, just ones we chopped. This one was so clearly not ready). It didn't surprise me too much to see a few nanners, especially since I threw all of my light on to one plant and probably rose its temp by a few degreese. That being said, the early nanners were clearly genetic, these last nanners I would not be surprised at all if they are from me stressing the plant; I gotta say since it was my first time I made a lot of little mistakes, but learned from each one for future grows.

Gonna order 62% boveda packs right this second for curing

Nanners or not, it sure is a nice looking plant! ESPECIALLY for a first grow! Amazing, really. Just ask any OTHER first timer LOL. How tall is that top cola? Looks fantastic!

You do not need to spend money on those packs, man. Seriously. We cured weed for eons before those things were ever invented, and there was never a problem. Seriously (oh, I said that already) Just put your bud in jars, open the lid on those jars 4 times a day and leave them open for 10 minutes each time to allow for the air exchange. That's all there is to it. Cure for a min of 2 weeks, or as long as 6 months. They say that the longer the cure, the longer the high. I've never cured longer than maybe 2 months, because who has the patience to not only wait that long, but to open and close jars every damn day for that long?!?! (My jar-curing also takes less time because I take more time during the drying stage by not cutting up my plants. I hang them whole.)

Since you like the bendy-stem method during the drying stage, then stick with it. Put your bud in jars when the stem snaps from being brittle. Open jar for 10 minutes when you wake up in the morning, again before you go to work, when you get home from work, and before you go to bed. Do it again during the middle of the night if you are an insomniac; otherwise, don't worry about it. AND THATS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO. It's free and easy. No packs needed.

That's it for me today, Gemu. Been nice chattin' with you, but this Gramaw is tired!

Aww you make it sound so easy. It can't be that easy

Well, all I can tell you is that this is how I've always done it -- like, for several decades -- and I've never had a problem. No fungus, no mold, no overly dry hay. ( I've let bag weed go dry, but never during cure.)

Understanding what is happening during the curing process may help you understand why it really IS as simple as it is. We want the moisture content to be consistent in the bud, meaning we want it to be as wet on the outside as it is on the intside while it is drying. That's why we put it in jars. When the lid is closed on the jar, the weed begins to sweat as the moisture from the inside moves to the outside of the bud and then into the air inside the jar. You may even see beads of sweat on the inside of the glass, especially during the first few days. (Always wipe off any moisture from the underside of the lid using a clean paper towel). After you close the jar and let it sit a few hours, when you open it and squeeze a nug, you will notice that it now feels more moist than it did when you first put it in the jar. As you let it sit for 10 minutes with the lid off, the air inside the jar is replaced with fresh, dry air from the room. Close lid and repeat. Each time you close the lid, the moisture in the bud escapes and raises the humidity level inside the jar, pulling moisture out while keeping the moisture level of the weed consistent. Open lid, the humid jar air is replaced by fresh air from the room, and so on.

People who end up with mold or fungus either 1) neglect to open lids often enough for sufficient air exchange; 2) use a dirty jar / lid; 3) contaminate the product before putting it in the jar; 4) use weed that has mildew or fungus already growing on it; 5) or a combination of these. All easy issues to avoid when you care to avoid them. And I suspect that you wouldn't make those mistakes.

The only thing I didn't mention before (because it is a step I often neglect to do, without apparent harm) is that some people like to "stir up" the bud in the jar to bring the bottom bud up to the top. I don't see any reason to do it, nor have I seen a difference when I have taken the time to do it, but I mention it anyway. (Also, you don't HAVE TO use glass jars. Plastics, with tight-fitting lids, work just as well. Some people prefer plastics because they always have a wider opening.)

And now I really am going to bed. Granny glasses are now off, and computer is shutting down ...

Had some friends over and broke out some of the smaller popcorn nugs that were dry.

Ground the bud up and it smelt freaking delicious, it was the strongest citrus cent I've ever smelt in bud. This was bud that has been drying for only a few days too but it had a perfect consistency after being ground, it honestly doesn't make sense I would have figured it would smell like hay as it was not cured yet. They said it tasted a bit earthy, but not chemically. It will be nice to try some soon, maybe i'll smoke a bowl on Thursday (:

The boveda site was trolling my card so I might have to cure without them anyways, but thats how its pretty much always been done so I might as well just learn to do it the old fashion way

Glad to hear that the sampling was fine. The cured product will only be better! Do yourself a favor and put at least a small jar aside to cure for 2 months (assuming you go through the rest of it in the mean time). You'll see that there is a difference with a longer cure. Something to consider if you ever grow an especially tight strain with a high price tag.

Good job! Let me know how that hermie does in a few days!

Hey so I jarred up a few colas last night, some that were potentially on the SLIGHTLY wetter side of the spectrum (according to the stem), they have been sitting in their jars for 6 hours (while I was sleeping), I checked on them this morning expecting the water to have re despersed through the buds, but some of them were feeling super dry. Does it take longer than 6 hours to re disperse moisture or did I somehow mess something up?

Most jars had a slight hay smell, some smelt a little fruity/sweet though. The hay smell I imagine will be taken out if I can cure properly, but their potential moisture content right now concerns me /:

Tbreak is over today (: Gonna be toking up later tonight

Edit: read some of this thread:

I'm a little less worried now, but still would love opinions!

DAMN,.... GOOD FIRST GROW!!!Very good, brother Gemu!

As far as curing goes, those boveda things are a waste of money. It's just another fancy labeled gimmick they put on the shelves for people with money to spend, but no common cents;).They may help BUT are not necessary...my .02¢
I just let the buds dry till I can't squish'em no more then put in a jar and burp or pour the buds out to "breath" every 12 hours or so........simple.

Thanks man I really appreciate it! (:
I dont think I overdried my buds considering most of them only were hanging for 4 days, but the humidity where I am was lower than usual (40-50%). I can't imagine that overdrying my buds in 4 days lol, i'm gonna assume my buds will end up being nice and sticky. I might order the packs in a few days, i'll see how its going until then (:

When I get home from work tonight, i'm gonna pack my first bowl in 2 weeks (:

Little update on my last lady, she's not being as photogenic today but holy shit is she adding size. I guess 400w of floros on one plant will do that? (Put all my CFL's on her, but she's only using a small portion of the T-5 right now)

The size increase isnt as apparant from these pics, i'll throw some better ones up later tonight after work when the lights turn on. Phone camera flash can be hit or miss.

Updates: buds have been curing for a few days now, as the moisture has mostly re-dispersed I think I might dry them out a little more in a few days, open to opinions on that.

There is about 89g in those jars right now (1 pint mason jars). I probably have taken out 1/4oz + to sample/give away, and I still have my last plant going:

^This plant has been flushed twice and still does not want to yellow, but its getting pretty big!

Looks good. How are the nanners holdin out
There are increasingly more of them, but there still is not a ton of them. I'll probably harvest in a few days and after i test some of the bud I will decide whether or not I should have kept letting the plant go for future harvests. That being said, it seems to be putting on some pretty awesome size considering I have almost all of my light on it!
