Just thought I'd start a thread for those of us that would just like to chat or throw Ideas around.
I have yet to figure out how to link to my grow journal in my sig. So I will post a link here for now. https://www.rollitup.org/hydroponics-aeroponics/488737-2nd-run-4-ny-sour-2.html#post6691261
I built my gravity returned ebb-n-gro style hydro system after doing a lot of reading and research. I wanted a system that was simple and easy to maintain.
Under current systems didn't really appeal to me because you have to have air diffusers in every bucket and a pump that would run none stop. It just seemed to be wasteful electrical wise and if something were to happen to the air pump you'd quickly drown your plants. Not to mention the issues that go along with having that much water warming up under your lights, that could cause root rot. So I decided not to go with any of the DWC methods.
Auroponics seems like a good system, but most auro setups only grow smaller plants.(unless you do HPA) If I could grow a bunch of smaller plants but more of them, I would definitely consider this style system. But between our 6 plant limit per and some other smaller issues that could be dealt with in the design of the setup, like clogging misters. I decided this probably wasn't the method for me. NFT again if I could do a bunch of small plants. But that just wouldn't work for me.
The most particle alternative (for me) was Ebb-N-Gro. But the controllers buckets are so expensive. Not to mention if there is a leak (or something went wrong with the controller) you could pump a 55 gallon drum of water out fairly quick. Which would make a huge mess. But if you take away the controller and use gravity to return your nutrient water to the reservoir. You can buy a precision timer that you can control your water cycles with. I do 20 seconds on every 20 minutes. So if i sprung a leak it would take all day to drain my reservoir.
Well I hope I didn't offend anyone with my reasons for choosing the style setup that I did.
Any comments are welcome! Also feel free to talk about any other issue that you would like.
