Looking to "revive" some of the older topics here ....

Question .... I have been using 3 gallon plastic buckets for some time now (3 grows) and they retail out at $6 per. Just wondering if I can use a black 5 gallon bucket, but use the same amount of Root Organics soil as the 3 gallons use? I found some at our local Agway store for $3 per. I have a hard time moving around 5 gallons of soil, is the reason for this question. Thanks everyone :-)

What kind of buckets are you using? I love the standard "el cheapo" nursery pots. They are standardized molded black plastic pots that are stackable and easy to handle... they usually rung from 1.50 to 2.00 a piece for 3 gallon where I get them from... even smart pots of that size cost a little less than 6 bucks a piece when you buy a 5 pack. I usually start my babies in 4 inch square pots, then 1 gallon nursery pots, 3 gallon nursery pots, and if i feel like bushing out I have a few nice 5 gallon nursery pots with handles that were 3.75 a piece I believe. A great way to save some cash is to go to your local nursery and get some used pots.. you will have to wash and bleach them but they are usually half price... hope that helps!!

on a side note.. I think I will be sticking to our state's threads from now on... as I cannot stand to read anything else at the moment :P

I have about 100 5 gallon buckets in my barn. Pickle buckets from the restaurant. They are a bitch to get the smell out but its doable. Just a thought

I hear ya on that.... used to use them. but i found they retain too much water if you don't drill the bottom like a sieve

Similar, I used to use Tidy Cat buckets with holes drilled. But they have those thin plastic nursery buckets at the grow shop, really cheap and all sizes. I use them over and over.

Hi All,
I recently purchased Laundry Baskets from the Dollar store in Bangor,
I lined the inside with vinyl window screen, and put a foam plate on the bottom to keep the bottom roots from poking out.
Although the baskets weren't listed with their gallon size I estimate them at about 3-4 gallon.
I am testing these to be my permanent pots for my plant library and for all my full size plants.
They drain really well and have nice sized handles to carry them. I will post pictures when I put them to use, My plants are all still seedlings.
Peace:weed:

So I was out running and tuning the 6000watt generator and stocking up on gas in preparation for losing power during this storm... those of you other maniaks growing should really get ready so your grows don't get disrupted!

I read where some EVs (Leaf, Volt) can provide standby power for a while. They are working on making that more efficient. Wouldn't it be cool if your hybrid could be a standby generator for your house :)

No doubt that would be awesome, i only lost 1 light cycle so I figure Im ok, just got to get the timers back to the correct time with out changing the cycle that much.

Hope all is well for every one

Peace

Just wanted to say Peace and hope that everyone survived the storm. I know that some on here may have some kin down in Jersey, NY, Conn, and others in Sandy's path, and I hope and pray that they all are safe and sound.

A tip of my New York Yankee cap to Dice .... as of this morning I took (4) of my best Vortex Clones (Gifted by my friend Budwich :-) ) and going to try NugBuckets Main-Lining Technique on them. I am so excited (almost had to pop another Nitro !! j/k) :-) Working on getting some pics up to show my progress.

All I can say to everyone on here is thank you so very much !! I am truly indebted to all of you, on all aspects that we have been through ... All of you are TRULY a Godsend to my family, and myself. Thank you from the bottom of my heart :-)

Peace, Love and Happiness
Bob (The MaineYankee) :-)
