Germinated overnight and into 5 gal pot...

Germinated 2 Jock Horror autos overnight in tap...after sinking, placed directly into 5 gallon pots and are currently sitting under fluorescent lights waiting to see now if they'll pop through...I guess my question is, should I have left them soaking until they popped from the seed and how long does it usually take a germinated seed to break through the soil?
Planted in Pro-Mix HP soil, lightly watered 6.2ph...I have grown before, but this is the first time I've germinated...usually would use the solo cup method, but trying to reduce the stress as much as possible and increase yield...

It'll probably work. If you were low on seed and didn't want to take many chances you could have waited until they had some root out and then planted them with that root down and the seed right near the top of the soil. I like to give them 2 days in the paper towel and then they're usually ready to plant.

I was going to try the paper towel method, then read about how delicate the seed is and the chances of destroying her when transplanting from towel to soil, so I talked myself out of it...:wall:...I still have a few Jocks left and 10 "Mystery" seeds...I took advantage of Nirvana's deal and I was gonna do some more learning on those beans, but I wanted to get something Good going first...I have about 3-4 weeks left on my Hijack Auto (Autoseeds.com), and just wanted to make sure I have plenty to smoke, before I start experimenting...ha...

I'm sure they'll be fine. You're right that it is easy to break off a root tip when handling sprouted seeds. No chance of that if planted before the root tip is out. Maybe uncover them and check on em though, just to make sure all is well.

What do you mean uncover?...I don't have anything over, except the light...I just measured and it's 4 inches above soil, but not hot at all...I do the same thing every grow, stress out like a new parent putting their kid on the school bus for the first time...:o...and won't relax til I see that sprout pop through the soil, or until you see your kid getting back off that bus in the afternoon...:clap:...ha...guess I'll take a puff!...Thanks Bro!...

my concern would be those container holding WAY too much water in them, and rotting the seed.
That 5 gallon is gonna take a week to even come close to drying out.
Also, judging from the mass amount of perlite at the top of that container and i'd wager to say they were a lil overwatered to begin with.
Remember cannabis HATES "wet-feet" you want a humid soil, not a wet anaerobic one.

They will be fine,just lightly water aroumd the area where the seed it can take up to a week for a sprout.It really depends on the seed.

I meant uncover the soil from the seeds to look at them if you're concerned about them. But since you mentioned it, covering the pots with plastic is usually recommended until they pop up. It makes it warmer like a greenhouse.

Paper towel directly into 5 gal smart pots here. Water the soil the night you begin germination in a paper towel... Plant a half inch deep and don't water for three days.

I lost my first seeds because I planted then over an inch deep, expecting them to germinate in the soil. You'd have to be pretty careless to crack a germinated seed... Don't be afraid of using a paper towel.

I'm going to use the towel method on my next grow...I just wanted to play it safe here, to make sure I had plenty to smoke and eat while I'm continuing to learn...ha...the stresses never end, first making sure that I actually get the beans, then it's if they're going to grow like their supposed to...I'm glad they threw in some regular, feminized beans so I can start learning how to clone...after these Jock Horrors get going, I'm going to transition into regular, non-autos and Really start getting into how Spectacular this plant truly is...:dunce::weed::mrgreen:

I might just do that...it's only about 66 degrees in here, so I might spread some plastic wrap over, to get some heat and humidity going...Thanks...

I didn't water too much, or too deep...I might have about a quart of ph'd water in each, just to have em nice and moist...the water didn't drain out the bottom, so they're both probably pretty dry at the bottom of the pot...I'll give her a few days and Hope for the best...ha...

Quick update...I'm trying something a lil different this time...hidden in those two 5 gal pots are some Jock Horror seedlings that just popped through the soil on 1/23...I'm putting 'em in the tent with the Hijack auto, going into her 7th week, on 18/6...that's the experiment, I usually keep my seedlings on 24/0 at least until the 2nd or 3rd week, but I'ma try sumthing a lil different and see what we get...took Nirvana up on their buy 5, get 10 free offer and so far I'm 2 for 2...Kudos to Nirvana seeds!...that's why I'm feelin a lil cocky, I got 13 beans relaxin in the fridge...ha...Happy Growin Stoners!!:bigjoint::weed::peace:

They made it, woohoo! I would actually recommend some dark hours for seedlings. You should probably let them develop all their systems normally at first, including those that take place in the dark. After that you could change the hours around, using 24 if you want. But I guess if you've grown seedlings in 24/0 before then they do turn out normal.

I was under the impression of the exact opposite. When you've just got the cotyledons out there and the first set of leaves, the plant needs all the light you can give it. As it starts to develop some veg growth, it might be best to give it some dark time (controversial).

I recently did a lot of reading on light in seedling/veg and I feel like as long as you have 18 hours of light, it's pretty hard to screw up. I, personally, like the idea of a dark cycle even if it might not be entirely necessary.

If you have proof, a reason you said what you did, I'd love to hear it (not saying it snarkingly, I really would).
