germinatiion & watering

greetings,
first time grower here. looking for some help. i have a strand: rocklock. germinated it by placing in a glass of water for approx. 24 hrs. the seed did not grow root or even crack, but sunk. i planted it 1/2 in. to 1 in. deep in organic choice potting mix. watered and placed under 1 1000w mh for 18 hrs on and 6 off. 5 days and nothing sprouted. i dug it up and found the seed just as it was. i placed it back into a cup of warm water, now until the root breaks.

Do i have a Bad seed? or what do you think?

also, have well water i believe to be not good for feeding. i a bought a pur 3-stage water filter that attatches to my faucet...will that make everything all good?

please help me out if you can,,,

maybe bad seed, maybe youre not waiting long enough. sometimes they take forever to crack. wrap it in moist paper towel and keep it warm, check it every day till the tap root pops out. then you can put it in some soil. only needs to be abouta 1/4 inch deep. water it in a little bit. keep it warm and wait. when it breaks the surface you can get the light on it but while its still underground your just wasting electricity

Here is what I do. I put the seed in a shot glass of water then keep it in the dark until it sinks. Then put the seed in a dixie cup and put the cup in a humidity dome and set it on a window sill...now that its been cold I put it on a heating vent. From what I understand a seed doesn't need light just water and heat, light comes into play later

thank you guys for such a quick response. its back in a glass of warm water in a dark place. i will wait to see if it starts to root. if not i will place it in the paper towel and try that approach, and see where it goes.

if it already sank you dont wanna be leaving it in the water. itll drown. the reason for letting it soak till it sinks is so the seed will absorb enough water to sprout. after it sinks you wanna put it somewhere to sprout. ie paper towel or some soil

welcomes. warmth helps so much to at speeding the process up. one last thing, when that root sticks out, limit it's exposure to light as much as possible. and when your sprout comes up, if the seed shell is still attached, dont worry about it. just leave her be, she'll discard her helmet when she's ready to.

you have 1 plant growing under 1000w?

hopefully soon...yes. is this not good, or what?

its just overkill, germ like 5 seeds if you have the space

ya its just a lot of power and light for one plant. Not bad if you keep it far enough away when it needs it. But ya you could definitely have many more under there with that size of light


for vegging i just use cfls but for flowering i have a 400w HPS. and my first grow i had 3 plants total bud weight = 5oz's. so 1000w mH and HPS.....ya you could get some serious bud heh

i dont have the seeds. only a few seeds, and different strands. plan to clone later. possibly, but will the light be a problem for the plants? how much space do you need for five plants?

i also have the 1000w hps for flowering. i just cant seem to get any goddamn seeds started!

no it wont be problem, its just alot of energy to burn for one plant. once you got clones going ti should be straight though. is your seed feminized?

five plants uhhh i would say roughly 15 square feet. im not sure, someone should back me up on that one

ight cool. if you were growing just one reg seed you could end up very disappointed

try this here ,i do this everytime i plant seeds now.the old matchbox trick,line a matchbox with some mid fine sandpaper and put your seeds in there and shake for a about 30-40 sec.what it does is scar the outer skin of the seed so water can penetrate the skin of the seed(some seeds have hard shells)then just soak as normal for at least 24 hours in a dark place and by then the seed should crack open in the water.

this seed has lived a very rough life so far! it is in a moist paper towel on the dryer with the lights off. if nothing sprouts in...(i dont really know how long to wait)...i willl try that. i dont see it hurting this seed at this point, and it sounds pretty logical. VERY dark, little seed! seems sealed well and very tough! smooth coat...scuff it up. makes sense. thanks.

give it a day, if no go give it two. if still no go start another but dont give up. it may sprout when you least expect it
