Germination am I doing it right?

So ahead of the girls I got flying on I decided to try and germinate some bag seed. First attempted was a large sized dark seed with the white tiger strips. I dropped it in a cup of yap water until it sunk to the bottom. I then took it out and tried the paper towel method. 2 days nothing so I put it back in the cup and it just sits there for another 2 days and nothing! So I try another seed the same way this one was light green but sizable. I put it in the cup for a day took it out and put it inside a paper towel inside a zip lock bag on top of an impromptu heating pad. It'd been on the pad since last night and after having just checked on it I noticed it looks quite a bit darker.
Any thoughts on this?
When soaking your seeds you are not suppose to soak for more then 24 hours if it is in cool water and not more then 12 if it is warm. Water gets in and drowns the embryo.
It's especially bad if you are soaking and then put it in a paper towel where some people get it too wet.

I'm so sick of "germination methods."

Just put the seed into the soil and drop a shot glass of water on top of it and wait. I've never had a seed not sprout on me doing things this way. I've sprouted in coco, yard dirt, fox farms ocean forest...hell I even germed seeds just by putting them in said shot glass with some water and leaving them alone for three days.

When it comes to germination...there is nothing new under the sun...in other words there are 3 basic methods all of which have been discussed here. Bottom line, germination depends on viability, breeding, and genetics.

Personally, I have only ever had the 2 I mentioned earlier fail to sprout. I attribute this to the lousy breeding of Arjan and the monkey boy. Not to the paper towels I soaked them in. Also, in my growing career I have only ever had 2 plants go hermie on me...both were the same grow from bagseed. So, 99.99% of the time when buying seeds from a reputable breeder who started with great genetics to begin with I have been successful.

The 3 methods discussed here have worked countless times for countless growers. So, the reason your beans did not pop is not grower error...it is the beans themselves.

My concern for you is if you are that freaked out about a seed popping what will happen when they sprout and begin to grow? What I am getting at is...do not become a nervous parent who freaks the fuck out every time a spot shows up on a leaf. I have seen newbies double feed, transplant, flush several times etcetera....because they saw a water spot on one fan leaf or something just as ridiculous. More plants are killed by their over protective parents loving them to death. So be careful out there. The best way to avoid all of this is to read and learn and than apply what you have read and learned to your garden and you cannot fail.

I just use plain paper towel (no design or color), make it a few layers thick depending on kind, put my seeds in and put paper towel between a couple plates (one plate normal with another upside down on top), and in a relatively warm environment. I used the zip lock bag for a while, but just was always worried about suffocating the seed. The plates allow a bit of oxygen, without it drying right out. Check on it daily, but usually 48 hours and they are ready to go. Then to the soil.

.
I've been using the toss em in water bit for my first grow to good effect. Bagseed here. I run them over an emory board lightly before I toss them in water. But getting tap roots have taken up to five days for me.

I used to use the soak for a day to paper towel method. Ever since buying from Midweek Song, I have always just put the seed right in the dirt. Every single one will germinate.
