hello newbie here...

I have northern light AF from nirvana

I bought a germination station i started 2 jiffy pellets inside a dome container with a heat mad underneath of it and it has been set up for 5 days now and nothing has sprouted

What am i doing wrong?

It could be a whole lot of things, or nothing. Be patient. Perhaps try a different way next time.

IMO, a lot of people use the paper towel method for both it's results and also because we can see what's going on. We can't force them to grow, only let them.

I lined a pill jar with 150grit sandpaper and shake my seeds around, (scarification), for a couple minutes then plant directly into soilless mix to sprout them. I also never handle my seeds with bare hands and use tweezers to move them around. Just skin oils can coat the seeds so water can't get in to make them sprout.

I'd check those seeds to see if they've cracked and if not dry them out for a couple days then try what I mentioned and replant. Heat mat might be too warm and I've never used one since killing a bunch of clones 15 years ago. 70-75F is warm enough.

Just planting straight in a pellet, without a presoak or anything, it's going to take probably a week to 10 days to sprout. Make sure you're not keeping it too wet, you just want to get it dampened, like a wringed out sponge, then put the dome on to keep it damp. Check 1 or 2 times a day and make sure the pellet doesn't dry out, just keep it damp.

I use the 24hr presoak then put them in a DAMP paper towel.

I've been practicing with industrial hemp seeds from my local health food store. Its really hit and miss on which seeds germinate quick or slow. Exact same conditions, sometimes one pushes out a centimeter tap root overnight, some take a week, some never do a thing. The suggestion about rattling them around in a small bottle or jar for 10 seconds does seem to work though. It loosens up the shell and makes it easier for water to get inside. When the tap root is about 2cm I put them in soil.

You don't need or want a dome when germinating seeds. It can stay too humid causing dampening off or too wet causing seeds to rot in a soaked medium. Take the dome off and use a spray bottle to mist them and keep them moist. You want moist not wet.

I posted this the other day in a thread about germination.

There is a section in this article that refers to the requirements for some seeds to germinate. It mentions scarification, like @OldMedUser spoke of. The germination time of those hemp seeds varies not only by genetics, but factors such as scarification. The seeds are each subjected to different levels of abuse in shipment and storage, leading to the membrane on the seed being damaged. If it was damaged a long time ago then the plant inside the seed is likely dead, whereas those that were recently damaged are more ready to take on moisture and spark the germination process.
