A couple questions for those of you who seed directly into medium. Is it ok to use say. a Solo cup with light warrior?
Not sure about Light Warrior, as long as it was real low in nutes it should be OK. I always started in starter mix, or a potting soil with no nutes added.
As far as the solo cups I have used them 2 ways and they both work well for me.
My favorite is to find round peat put that fits nicely into a solo cup and plant in the peat pot. Solo cup keeps it moister longer, and zero chance of transplant damage.
I've also planted in a clear plastic solo, then put it inside a red or blue one. Supposedly light on the roots is not good. Was never sure but kept them in a solid color cup anyway. The cool thing about this is you can slide the clear cup out and watch the development of the root system. You don't want to let them get rootbound, but you want sufficient roots to hold everything together when you remove it from the cup.
Always punch holes in the bottom. I get a stack of about 8 and get a philllips screwdriver real hot on a gas stove or propane torch, then melt half a dozen holes in all 8 at once, works slick.
