Germination

Yes they both work well. Just to be clear I wasn't trying to say paper towel doesn't work, it does. But I've found directly to soil has worked faster for me and so I see no need to go through another germination method.

You should do whatever is easier and works for you.

Another vote for soak over night then into a solo cup of damp soil. Any longer than over night and the root starts showing and I would rather it pop in the soil.

I now keep it as simple as simple can be.
No pre soaking...no paper towel...I put the seed directly into my moistened medium at a depth of apx 1/2 inch...voila...the seedlings pop up in just a few days.
I keep plastic wrap over the moist medium until I see the first sign of sprouting...then I take the plastic wrap off, and I make sure that I keep the seedlings as close as possible to the light, if indoors.
If outdoors, I give the little buggers as much direct sunlight as possible.
Works nicely for me.
Thats my second favorite way of germinating its called the green house effect, moisten soil, top it with saran wrap, but i still use my cupboard over my fridge. Its dark and warm and presto!

Otherwise the old fashion way works well, just not the same success rate.

Happy growing!
