get some real cfls!!!!

haven't been around in awhile, but glad to see the cfl subforum.......

there are some really nice cfls out there(not to be confused with the crap out of HD, Walmart, or Uncle Bob's Hardware.....

do a search for 1000bulbs, or topbulb.com.......i can't make it any easier than that unless i linked you direct.

happy growing, and cfls will do anything you ask without all the heat of HPS or whatever other flamethrowers are out there.

pay like 5 bucks a month, and thats what you get by your name, whooo hoo.

i've been recommending 1000bulbs to people. topbulb has a 150w for $85 where 1000bulbs has it for $40...

saw a 125w 2700k CFL on ebay for $50US
is this a good bulb to flower maybe three or four plants?
should I just hang it from a mogul vertically in the middle?

The 2700K is for flowering

Depends on the size of your grow area dude - personally I'd go with a higher watt if you can, like a 200w - I wouldn't go with just the one light hanging vertically though - get 2, 1 horizontal on top and the other vertically to illuminate the lower bud sites.

im thinkin' inside a cardboard box lined with mylar bout 2'x2'x4' for a growbox in a closet got one already for veg workin great

sounds like a recipe for disaster...better buy fire extinguishers, cuz you're gonna need 'em. carboard boxes lined with mylar? seriously....

Whats your IQ ? because technically, a CFL is a CFL. Theirs no such thing as a "real" CFL, just CFL's. Whether its 13 watts or 500 watts, its still a COMPACT FLOURESCENT LIGHT!

All it comes down to is if you want to use 1 bulb vs many... in the end, you still use the same amount of wattage and receive pretty much the exact same light output.

you really think one 125w cfl will generate enough heat to ignite cardboard?
wasnt thinking it would get that hot ......plus will have a pc case fan exhaust

No bulb is better at light production than another as you will see when you understand how work.

~As electrons and charged atoms move through the fluorescent tube, some of them will collide with gaseous mercury atoms that comes from the small amount of mercury in the bulb. These collisions excite the atoms, bumping electrons up to higher energy levels. When the electrons return to their original energy level, they release light photons. Hence the more mercury the different the light will become. Such as temperature and that means the wavelength of the light will change.

Hence a bulb only becomes better if you use better parts, such as glass, metal, and plastic. Which none of these make plants grow any better. Unless you have a picky plant that cares about brand names.

What does make your plants grow better is how many lumens the light outputs to them.

Consider this, the Sun is 71 percent H and 26.5 percent He and emits 3.8E26 watts of energy, is 15 million kelvin and produces ~ 4 x 1026 W Lumens. You can see mathematically this represents why our planet is so vegatative and thrives so well. The Lumens are amazing....

Now think... I don't even know what any of that math meant but really I don't even know where I am going with all of this now. Man I am stoned

I actually bought one of these the other day. I got it on sale a Target!!!

3500 F. to 6000 F.

Oh really? There are volumes of information comparing CFLs. Even piles of information comparing CFLs by the same manufacturer in the same product group. So, I belive a little closer examination of the data is reasonable. But, if this does not interest you, why post here and slam someone else?

you know what he meant guys why argue.
by real he just meant one intended, tested and designed to be used on plants. It is quite obviouse and we all know it but would rather find something to argue about not very cool
I am going to get a real one, a 2700k 125w growbulb instead of the multiple wal-mart 15w ones thank you.

getting back on subject, I recently bought a 100w Flourex CFL outdoor light which i modified by splicing in a 2$ polarized extension cord (since it was for outdoor it has a 2 wire setup out of the box)
the florex 100w puts out the light equivalent of 1000w incandesent and is cool blue like a HID, all i did is change the plug and took off the weatherproof lens which diffuses the light.
use a polarized plug and make sure the black wire is on the big prong and you guarantee you cant plug it in the wrong way. It has a ballast in the base and is super bright, my plants love it

they sell it @ home depot for 59$ with a bulb included and it is the biggest freaking CFL i have ever seen in my life. i get the light output of an expensive setup for 59 bucks, and i barely noticed any change in my electric bill.
