Getting plants enough sun?

I have 2 clones growing on my roof. Do you need to make sure your plants gets 12 hours of sunlight? For outdoor? Or what?

ppl say u want atleast around 5 or 6 hrs direct sun. more will most likely do better, any less, the plant will grow, just not with very spectacular results

There is a noob section here. And the only time you need to worry about 12 hour light is during flower.
