Wrap chicken-wire around+over the pots or make a small fence.

12 gauge shotgun, quick, humane, to the point. I have no cat issues, my dogs keep them away.

Something that works very well, once in place. Get a roll of 2" chicken wire. 3 or 4 feet wide. Suspend it horizontally about 6" above the ground. Stretch it tight. No four legged animal will try crossing it more than once. Their instinct tells them it is a death trap if a predator comes by. If it were deer, I'd suggest 6"x 6" remesh, 7 feet wide. This is how I keep cats out of freshly planted garden beds.
