Ghetto Ass Thermometer?!?!?!

Do theremometers work correctly if they constantly have air blowing on them? I have a small grow cabinet that has the dimensions of 13"x18"x66". I am using a 400w metal halide light and I have a digital thermometer at plant height, even though I have no plants yet. I am also using a small fan from a microwave. The the thermometer read 95F before I cut the fan on and 105F after I cut it on. WTF? Could the fan be blowing all of the hot air towards the thermometer? This doesnt make sense though because it doesnt feel as hot to me. I am hoping my thermometer is wrong, otherwise I don't know what to do about temperatures because I am germinating right now and my babies should be ready to plant soon. Any advice would be much appreciated.

If you have your thermometer in direct light or close to the bulb it will pick up the heat.....What I do is keep the thermometer at the base of the plant, should only be a few more degrees higher. Also you have to somehow get rid of the hot air, a fan will just blow it around.
