Hi guys I just got.a giant cfl 300w with just the power lead no reflector just for a few thousand more lumens and I don't know how to hang the light. What would you guys recommend letting it just hang there or supporting it with a piece of string I'm in a quandry. Thanks a lot

make sureit wont catch the string on fire cause my cfls heat up alot
if you have it horizontal it will give more light to plants then vertical

Never hang lights with anything that can catch fire. Bend up a piece of coat hanger to grip the socket, hang that with a chain or steel wire. Tip: most common pliers have a "fence cutter" right in the pivot, makes short work of coat hangers.

by 300 watt do you mean 68 watt or an actual 300 watt CFL? i have never seen a CFL over 250 and those normally cast as much as a 600 watt hps.

If in fact it is a 68 watt, i use them for side lighting and i would say 6 inches is a reasonable distance is you have good 78 degree temps and a fan. if your temps are hotter or you don't have a fan i might back it off to 8 or 10.

If it is in fact a 300 watter then i have no idea, i would say 12 to 14 inches most likely.

as far as hanging i would stop by a hardware store and pick up a large sized ceramic reflector for it for about $12 and it will have a bracket you can clip to anything or removes and just let it hang by the cord.

I take it you got this globe from a grow shop right? You should be able to go back and find a reflector that mounts to the base / ballast of the globe with two looped metal hangers ontop of the reflector. this should hold your globe pretty horizontal, and reflect as much light as possible. Id personally say 10 inches is the closest your gonna want it with out some cold air blowing over it, or real good circulation in your room keeping the air around the plants nice and fresh and cooool
