zoe, you had us all at "girl from paris...."
I would still isolate the seed with the best genetics before running the clones perpetual. Find the best original plant, then take all your cuttings from that lady before you stop using a mother. Genetics seems to vary so much from seed to seed.I've also used feminized seeds on a number of occasions and I've never had a male. A couple hermaphrodites, but no males. Also, mother plants can get quite large and unruly, so if you're in a small apartment, I would advise against keeping one. All you need is two separate areas to grow in. One for vegetating plants and one for flowering plants. If you take cuttings from your mature plants a couple weeks before you switch them to 12/12, you can root and vegetate your clones in a separate room while their mothers flower. By the time you harvest, the clones are ready to begin 12/12. This will give you a perpetual harvest every 8-13 weeks depending on the particular strain you're growing. From my experience with white strains (WW), you're likely looking between 10-12 weeks between harvests.
Your hydro guy is correct. All the EC is is a measure of electrical conductivity. Most tap water has some level of electrical conductivity. I am not super familiar with EC as I use PPM but I believe your tap water is fairly high in salts. These salts could really be anything, but you can probably find a local water report from whoever handles the water you drink to find out what is in your water. I'd start there and adjust accordingly. Quite possible it's a lot of calcium or magnesium or both - that'd be good because you wouldn't need to invest in cal/mag. However you can't really know until you check out your water reports. I am lucky that my tap water has 0ppm (rare as hell) and near perfect PH. Even then I don't follow manufacturers directions on nutrients though as they usually are on the high side (they want to sell more product).well uhhhh... hihihi i try again... on the product it says to mix it with water 50ml in 10liter and then check the EC that should be at 1.8. if more add some plain water a.s.o....
now in the shop they say that the plain water (before adding the nutrient) has already an Ec value ( I checked it - plain water here is at 0.35). they say that this value has to be added to the value i want to obtain. F..k... i'm really confused about this... So as an example, following what the shopguy says : I want an EC of 1.8 - i add nutrient until the meter reads 2.15... as 0.35 accounts for the plain water value. That sounds like bullshit to me, trusting more in the info on the product, but I'm a beginner in this so...
thank you for your help R152, I appreciate it
Yep bungee cords greatly reduce vibrations. Simple and effective way to reduce noise. And in regards to your fan if it is loud it can certainly raise suspicion. My little fan is only a 50 CFM bathroom fan mounted in my attic but you can totally hear it in my daughters bedroom which is next to the grow. If I was in an apartment with a fan even slightly louder Id work on getting it silenced. The best way to silence a fan is to hang it suspended in the air with bungee cords or something. Once you mount them to a wall or ceiling that vibration can resonate quite far. Good luck.
I think your bike inner tubes are probably good enough, similar principle, good insulation and sealing of your grow room door will go a long way towards sound reduction (as well as maintaining temperatures) so keep it all in mind and improve whatever you think will have most impact and is easiest for you IMO.Hi Evilgenius... thx for feedback. you are right it's mainly calcium 34 mg/liter and magnesium 3.9 mg/liter ! Now you suggest i adjust accordingly... Do you have suggestions how to adjust it with those values ? should I go for what the hydro guy says...? just add it on top of the requiered quantities of nutes, without risks of burning my crop ? thx again for your efforts and time, really appreciate it.
oh ... and : i use inner tubes for bicycles, got them for free at a local shop. Would bungee cords be much better ? (Far more expensive, i'm sure..!)

You can just keep it in the open air if you're not vegging them big (I assume you won't be, most don't). No real venilation needed, just don't seal it up completely. It shouldn't smell (unless your genetics are AWESOME) very strong and you will get more than enough CO2.thx, thc and the lions of judah. I'll do that, like you and others suggested - a generation of clones instead of keeping an old mumplant in a closet. Just started this morning to build an extra room for this purpose, some sort of coffin with cfls in it. I wonder : do i need to install an air-ventilation-system in that too?
Enjoy your week

In my experience ... there's no way to know until the smoke is ready.Hi again r152,
it makes sense to me about isolating the best seed (plant) of cause. But i'm not sure how to identify that lady.... Is it the fastest growing one, the one with the thickest stem,.......????????? I'm sure you've got ideas about this too, like usually, champ
