i have others..
what if you build a wooden box and for the top use some glass, like a glass square coffie table then on top of that place your lights , now you have the lights in differant room then the grow , keeping your grow the right temp - so put simply, you have 2 rooms, top & bottom devided by a sheet of glass in the top room you have ballast and lights in the bottom room (under the glass) you have the grow - you would'n have to move the lights just the grow start it at the ceiling then move it down - now , idk about large grows, but for small ones maybe in a diy 2 level box like maybe 5ft tall by 3 to 5 ft wide and just as deep, it could work- how much is a 3x3 or 5x5 sheet of glass-- and then you could just cool the top room or compartment
actually, that was my first grow box design. A cabinet with another small compartment above the main chamber for the lights and a sheet of pane glass that the lamps just rested on.
Good design for a stealth small grow but the spac limitations being fixed cause problems if you want to grow bigger plants.
But it is a good notion to seperate the lamps from the plants. You just exhaust the lamp chamber and dont olose your CO2 in the grow chamber. Also not being able to move my plants was not great, if you had a pulley system where you could move the floor of the grow chamber and plants up when theyre small and lower it as the y grow that would be slick.
Back to the tubes...I just went strolling around my local Walmart and saw a glass vase that would be perfect, for $10!!!!
slight taper at the rim but about 12 in tall and 5.5 in wide and pretty thin glass too.
The only obstacle is cutting off the bottom of it. Any thoughts?
I am thinking a band saw and water to keep the dust out of the air and just slowly cut thru it. For $10 bucks tho that can't be beat really
