Gnats everywhere

i had an issue too. i went and bough some venus flytraps and cobra lillys they ate every damd one. and it was ballsy to watch to boot.

ya i have fungus gnats aswell. prob is there in my rockwool and i cant really use any chemicals since there just seedlings (just popped up yesterday) i have heard about puting patato chunkis in with the rockwool to they go after that till you can get rid of them. seams kinda odd to feed the problem though. i found a link from texas A&M on them damn gnats. didnt do me much good but i might help someone

id say try adding a lil peroxide to your water.
i put some of it in cups and bowls around my growroom and in the plant trays and base next to the stems and they fly in and die. it may weaken the ones in your rockwool

well i tried the patato trick. so far it looks like it has worked. i put my dome over the seedlings and put patato chunks on the rockwool. changed out the patato chunks every 12hours or so and i dont see them anymore. still gonna have to bomb the room, but atleast my babys are clean now

I SWEAR THIS WORKED, kiss-ass
thats me kissing your ass for saving my plants and my big bug problem, i thought layer of sand would fuck with the plant with not enough oxegyn or something, nope it worked perfect and my plants are not even effected.

the sand kinda helped but it took a long ass time. there were still gnats all the time i think they were getting in through the botton holes of the pots. so i rubberbanded sandwich bags around the small ones and poked holes in em, i see gnats every now and then. also the sand slowly kills the bottom leaves and makes its way up the top from the salt build up im guessing.

dont use sand from the beach, you dont want the extra salt it has on it in your root zone

sand from the beach comes with bugs from the beach bro. i used sand, beer and venus fly traps and cobra lillys. and it got rid of them. also i now blow a fan on the top of the soils.

I had a major gnat infestation too. I tried a few things but the one that has worked the best was Einstein Oil (haven't seen a gnat in months!)...I also switched from soil to hydro.( I think my soil was contaminated from the start with gnat larvae thanks alot Miracle Gro) I tried the vinegar and dish soap and yeah, it caught a few of them but it didn't wipe them out... The guy at the hydro store threw me a free sample of Einstien. Once I started using it and they disappeared gradually over about a month... you have to mix it with a little dish soap or Hydrogen Peroxide to get it to mix evenly with water. I thouroughly sprayed the plants 3 times a week (cover top and bottom of leaves) and POOF they were gone...I am totally satisfied with this stuff. I think it works on spider mites too, but i'm not sure. Another good thing about it is that a little bit goes a long way!! I barely used more than 2 tsps of this stuff.

yeah, sand mostly just slowed down their reproducing, i had to use that with neem and insecticidal soap and i still see them occasionally..

Yeah, I think einstein oil either has neem oil in in or is is about the same thing. The guy at the store told me that it works because it stops the gnats from reproducing and eventually they die off.

yeah einstien oil is neem with a couple other botanicales. its the only kind i use. although any cold-pressed neem should work pretty well. i would advise agaisnt the cheap neem though like dyna-gro, its not woth the 7 bucks it costs...

1" of sand is best as they can't get through it to lay thier eggs, each gnat lays about 100 eggs. the larva attach them selves to the roots of the plant which weakens them and can kill them. you will also get mold on the leaves which spreads with time and can over come your plants.

oh by the way they are called fungal gnats. they come from the soil when it has not been properly composted. the lava eat off the rotting pieces of wood chips that are in the compost. go on the net and google them you will learn everything there is to know about them.

I had the same problem myself. Here's what I recommend:
The problem is in the soil, the gnats reproduce and the pupa eat at the plants roots while the gnats feed on fungus in the soil.
Here are 2 options:
You can either buy a fungicide/insecticide and use it every week for the rest of your plants life or you can buy/mix some new STERILE soil, (I used Lambert's sterile potting mix) and re-pot the plants in that, then sprinkle a little organic fungicide on the surface if you wish.

I switched soil then used the fungicide as a preventative and never saw a gnat again! I used Garden Dust (got it from Homo Depot for $12)
