Going Green's Girls (Hopefully)

Alright so this is me and my roomate's first time growing, we decided to use a closet about 2.5ft x 2.5 We have a 400w HPS grow light and an Air Purifier with an active Carbon Filter to keep those plants from stinkin' up the house. We haven't gone too high tech, just a simple power bar run off a basic timer. We also have a humidity meter and a digital temperature. Pretty basic setup, due to space issues we have 2 plants per pot, probably a 'no-no' but we are short on space and experimenting. The reason for our shorter cycles is the plants need to be done by Christmas (fingers crossed).

So here's the start of the grow, no pictures until where they are at now. (A Month in) We started with bag seeds, couple of stragglers in the bottom of a Quarter O. To germinate, we placed em on a sheet of paper towel, soaked quite thoroughly. We then put the paper towel on a plate, covered with a bowl to block out light, put it on the tv covered by a blanket. After 24 hours, 4/5 seeds had sprouted, and after 48 hours we were ready plant. For soil, we used a basic mix of potting soil (Walmart) and some perlite. After a day under the lights (18hrs on, 6 off), we had sprouts.

As far as fertilizer goes, we've been using Miracle-Gro all purpose 24-8-16 'with micro nutrients', Jobes plant food spikes 13-4-5, and for the flowering cycle we have chosen Schultz Bloom Builder 10-54-10 to up the phosphorous content. Water we have been using a mix of bottled spring water and tap water (aged for 24 hrs). We use 2 spray bottles, 1 with the miracle gro solution, and 1 with just regular water. Our temperature ranges between 17 celsius and 26 celsius (replicating summer in BC) and our humidity reads between 30-60%.

So since pictures from earlier aren't available, we'll pick up where we are now. A month into the grow, lights down to 12/12 for flowering. (Yes I know, deadlines suck) We've identified pistils on 2/4 plants so far, with no signs of pollen sacks.

So this picture is from week 3, and will update tomorrow when the lights are on. Wouldn't wanna disturb the babies while they're resting . The other shows our basic setup when we had just planted the seedlings.

So we hope you like, our next grow will be done with bank seeds and we will do a complete journal for you guys. I will take some pictures tomorrow so you can see them as they are now. Yes the aluminum foil is ghetto, but we're trying to keep this relatively low cost.

Very nice tight bushy plants nice job, my dead line is xmas as well but I don't think I'm going to make it, I'm 26 days into flowering and I'm using cfls so the growth will be slower, if you recently started flowering and using an hps you just might make your deadline, good luck to you,

Oh I heard tinfoil is a no no, so I'm using the dollar store gift wrap for my ghetto light fixture and it seems to be working great!

Again good luck to you and I do hope you make it for xmas, that I think would be the best gift of all, keep up the good work!

You're definitely going to want to remove those towels. They are going to breed mold if they are damp at all. They'll also raise the humidity.

For some reason this house stays very dry, humidity around 20%. We're too cheap for a humidifier, so we go for the 'towel method'. Without the soaked towel we wouldn't be able to achieve proper humidity percentages. No need to worry though, we change it every day.
