His light budget is only 50.00
Honestly you can just use the 1000 watt HPS all around. Its bright enough to make them grow like crazy, and u save money by just using one type of light/balast. Switchable balast are more expensive. btw a 1000 watt HPS need like 6 to 8 feet between it and the plant or you can burn them. Make sure you have the right space for such a high powered light. I use a 400 watt HPS and it gets mighty hot in my closet, so I've added a fan at the door pulling hot air out.

Here's what I do, I found it on here...get yourself a power strip...its about ten bucks. Get 3 y converters...about 1 dollar apiece. Get Six of the biggest Cfls you can get. Theres your setup.Don't use duct tape....try electrical to be safe. Here's where I got it from

That makes my investment per bulb about $30, which is way, way more than I had bargained for. I'm checking the Net, but a cheaper alternative remains elusive. Help me out here!

I would get 6 outlet power strips and connect "Y" converters on them to plug in your CFLs. You can use 3 spots (only because of the bulbs bulkiness) and 3 y's for 6 sockets on 1 power strip.

This would save you in the long run, you could get 2 power strips and 6 Y's for a total of 12 sockets to put CFL's in.

Here is my gheto setup but it shows what I'm talking about. I'm using one 6 outlet power strip with 2 Y converters for 4 cfls. This makes only 1 thing to plug in (the power strip) and it's very convenient.

Next step would just be making some type of hood or bolting the power strips into your growspace.

The power strips are quite cheap , proly around $5 and the Y converters are something like $2 each.

Hope this helps

I don't blame ya...foil christmas wrap is mylar...and a couple bucks a roll. Y converters you can get at a hardware store. They look like this.NEED MORE LIGHT?~~Y~~BULB ADAPTERS~~~1 SOCKET BECOMES 2 - eBay (item 120276373299 end time Jul-04-08 03:20:13 PDT) The only difference is, they will have plugs on them to plug into your power strip.

ok cool! so 6 CFL bulbs should provide enough light for like 3 or 4 plants??? ANd i'm gunna go to home depot today to see what they have. I would like to hang the lights above the plants, like hang the lights from the cieling onto the plants.

Prolly not for three or four....better get 12 lights and put one power strip on each plant, for a total of two plants...little buggers like a lot of light....when you germinate, do it in the dark, then when they sprout, put them in some light, and put it about 2 inches away...if they look like thats too close, move it up a few inches...with cfls, you need them as close as possible because of light dissipating over distance...they don't penetrate deeply enough far away. And try to get them all around your plant ideally....do try to get the cheap hps for flower though....you will see a big difference.
