Going to harvest: Types and Strains of Plants

Hello everyone, I'm coming to what will be the end of my first successful grow, and there have been some challenges along the way. I've gotten a lot of really good reference material to read through here and great information that have helped to make this a BIG BUD season for me! I'm glad that I've been able to find so much great info here on Rollitup.

Anyway, my plants are on their first week of flush, and I can pretty much see when the trichomes will be turning 50-80% cloudy with the help of a 60X magnifying loop. At least I can on the Pineapple Express, the Strawberry Ice and also the Point of NO Return. However, on my two Mystery plants (free seeds) I don't have a clue.

I don't know what kind of plants, or what strains they are, and what to look for to show that they are ready or not. They don't have the dense thick sticky buds like the strains I wrote about above, no heavy Trichome growth, not as many calyx hairs, like the big fat Pineapple Express or StrawberryIce. The taller plant seems to be putting out little light yellow colored dry flowers on the ends of it's main and lesser cola's. They are dry and come apart when touched.

Perhaps this is long past ready to harvest? I'll put up some pics, although their quality may be crap even though I bought a new 35 MM digital camera yesterday, I just haven't had time to learn to use it. : )

Thanks for any thoughts, comments or ideas.

Some still have that bart simpson spikey hair look. That look goes away and the buds swell and fill out when ready. My guess is a few more weeks at least.

Also read about "Bending". You can grow the plant lower and keep it from getting too tall.

Yes, the two plants that I don't know the strains of are the plants that look spikey.... I don't think their "look" is going to go away now that the plants are almost through their seventh week of Flowering. LOL Like I said, I don't know how to judge these two plants as far as if they should be cut down or not? Their BUDS and leaf growth aren't like any of the other plants I have. The other plants in the PICs are of a Strawberry Ice plant and a Pineapple Express, and as I mentioned it's easy to tell if they are ready because the huge buds and Trichomes that are covering the buds and leaves. I can see if the trichomes are clear, milky or amber.

With these two plants, there are no trichomes on the small leaves from the buds, and the buds have a covering of very fine trichomes but they are too small for my jewelers loop to see.?

Does anyone have any ideas about the strains of these two plants? Sativas??? Afghani??? something??
I don't know the strains on them, and since this is my first grow I have very limited experience with knowing what plants look like in each stage of growth.

They look like a sativa strain. They'll take longer to finish. Be patient.

Thanks for your thoughts on these two plants slonez47, I appreciate you taking the time to write that down.

I was just looking at the Amsterdam Marijuana Seed (AMS) site since that's where the free seed came from, and I found one or two pics of plants that might be the tall plant. It might be a Haze plant, it says they can really grow tall, and this one did. It also mentions that they can flower for up to 10 -14 weeks. I picked a bunch of the yellowing leaves tonight, and also took a couple of the lower branches, trimmed them and hung them to dry. I couldn't help myself, and had to do it for my own well being (mentally) LOL and for the safety of others too. LOL

Being as patient as I can, Thanks for the good words.

I got a 60x - 100x scope so I can see things like the trichomes, and they are about 40% milky, and on the 2nd mystery plant there are actually some that are starting to turn amber color. So I think that one more week should just about do it for them.
