Good Idea Or Bad Idea?

I have a few questions, so I will explain situation so you have clear pic of whats going on, however Please Will Only experienced growers answer this question please. Appreciated.

Me and a friend are growing in his house, we have just bought 10 White Widow seeds(Seedsman), 10 Satori Seeds(Mandala), 1 Blue Hash(Dinafem freebie). we will be growing under 250 hps for now in a growtent.

Problem 1

we where gonna germinate them paper towel method, after reading a recent post on here saying that planting them straight in soil is better, however I checked today and soil is all dried up, however will this effect the germination of seeds? because I then realised I may have put all my eggs into 1 basket and maybe this was a bad idea, especially since we spent all money on seeds. Do you think seeds will germinate?

Problem 2

my friend already has 2 plants in flowering, 1 of them is g13 labs thai super skunk with a flowering period of forever, however we where thinking of letting the seeds we just planted go on 12/12 and then when we find the sex of the seedlings then switch em to 18/6 and this will also allow the 2 flowering plants in there at the moment finish flowering, and then this will also allow is to know what sex our seedling will be.

I have 2 questions on this problem.

Is this possible?

Is this a good idea?

Please help us, it's our first "bigger" grow.

yes do not let the seed dry out at all. very bad...

what i would do veg the seedling tell you can cut clones from them put the clone you just cut in flower makeing sure you labeld them to the plants you cut from. your clones will show sex even with out roots, then you can throw out your male plant that are in veg. toss out the males clones you just sexed and either vert them back or keep flowering them... now all the plant that were in veg you now are female nowyoucan start your own clone factory.... with alll females... good luck:mrgreen:

I am by no means experienced, but I'm learning as I go. I tried planting some seeds directly in soil, too, and had problems with the soil drying out. Waited for a week and only 1 out of 6 seeds germinated. I decided to test the paper towel method instead and had much better results 8 out of 8 germinated within 3 days.

I actually used one of those multifolded napkins from a pack I had in the pantry. Wet the napkin, lay the seeds out with plenty of space between them and fold the napkin over so they are between two layers of wet napkin. Then I put the napkin into a ziploc baggie and placed it on top of my XBox 360 which I left on so it would be warm. In 2 days 7 of the 8 seeds had germinated.

If the seeds dry out during the process, they will probably die.

i plant seeds in soil with no problems. you just have to stay on top of it, thays all... it is better to start in soil.. soilthat has no nutes in it...NO NPK ON THE BAG AT ALL. for better results

yea I usually use paper towel method too, however when I read about placing seeds straight in soil is safer as paper method towel method can cause rot etc and with this been our first "bigger grow" I didn't want to fuck up.

on mandala's site they advise against the paper towel method as well. nobody seems to have a problem with it though!

yea, I know. what I can't understand is tho, is why is it given such a bad name when it's ganja seeds?

when most other industries use this method.

strange if ya ask me.

So you've been hanging a grow light on it? No need to heat the soil in the summer. No need to illuminate it either. As long as there is some natural sunlight...presto.

You're baking them...

No I haven't been hanging a grow light on it either, it is on a south facing window sill and we have a heat wave in the uk, hence it's been pretty warm and drying up soil.

I just want to say this about that,,, To date I have used the paper tpwel method onabout 275 seeds in the last couple of years,, mostly for friends,,, Out of that many 3 didnt pop,, and that was just because the werent good seeds,, I dont know why people have trouble with this method,, I have put seeds straight in soil a few times but its always hit and miss,, I recently put 6 straight in rockwool cubes and every one is up but not sold on that method for some reason.... When paying good money for very litlle amount of seeds I go with a sure method.....
Just keep it moist. They'll sprout. Millions of farmers can't be wrong...

yes I just payed £40 for the seeds, now I think I have lost all that on some of the biggest beans I have ever seen to. The white widow I got from the attitude where absolutly huge aswell, well there was a couple of normal sized beans and 8 absolute biggiies. I am not sure it's coz I am a regular customer there or what but they always give me extras and good beans.
