At exactly 6 weeks done of flowering today.......not an easy grow so far. Initially I found 1 plant that had some mite damage which I isolated in another room where my a/c unit is so it's much cooler in there slowing down any more activity. Then I found 5 more plants with slight damage too soooooooo 6 plants isolated now, and 18 plants still in the main room. The big room shows no damage now or any mite activity. The mite plants have been trimmed to remove any leaf damage and that along with the cooler temps and a leaf wipe of some non toxic lotion in there seems to have everything under control and it's been at least a week now. I can even easily identify the early plants, maybe 20% of them should be done in around 3 weeks, the rest I'm going the full 70 days. Smell has really peaked, maybe an 7.5/10 right now. Loads of crystals, plants al it's have a yellow tinge to them from all the resin. I eased off the ppm a bit and have been at 800-900 ppm mostly, they don't seem to need the 1000-1200 I give to my indicts normally. Pic's up this afternoon........

So, finally got to snap a few pic's.......today is day 44 in flowering. Pic #1 is the regular room, now with 18 plants in it. Pic #2 is the nicest plant in the bunch, maybe 1 I forgot to pinch which grew the tallest and with the largest main cola and pic #3 is the secondary room with 6 plants under a 600 watt hps. About 5-6 plants are well ahead of the rest, I'm not even sure I'll need to go 9 weeks on them. The others will go between 9-10 weeks in the end. Can't wait to try this strain, but REALLY excited about the next Gorilla Glue hybrid i bought for next time........

Just a few notes to update........

1. One place says plants will take 9-10 weeks in flowering to finish. Another place (both places on breeders website) says 8-9. Personally, I'd say with many different pheno's I'll be cutting all 3 weeks.

2. Buds are ROCK hard, yield looks average at best right now BUT I'm hoping the hardness of the buds will help offset it some.....

3. Smell is a solid 8/10 right now. Not the worse I've seen but my wife is complaining so I know it's up there.....

4. Nicest looking plant is the only one I didn't top or pinch, it was super short to begin with. Don't touch them in flowering, you'll be better off.

5. I saw this strain being sold in a dispensary online, they considered it top shelf and oz's were being sold for $400 each. Here's the link:

https://cannabis.net/deliveries/canna-valley-collective/menu/new-strain-alert-top-shelf-gorilla-wreck-4

6. Heading into week 8 in a few days, time to start cutting back the fertilizer.

7. I see Expert Seeds came out with a few more G.G.#4 strains, well worth consideration when you compare their prices to others. Their G.G.#4 does appear to be the real deal.

^That's a good aroma meter right there, ha ha.

So I'm guessing the smell had evolved into something more enjoyable than it was earlier in the grow? I've got 1 GG#4 cross I've grown a couple times and that girl stinks in the lovely ways.

Do you have any you would consider keepers at this point? Do you keep keepers or just grow from seed most of the time?

I have bad allergies and take med's for them so they tend to kill off my sense of smell........so after this many years I tend NOT to notice smell much. On the other hand, my wife constantly complains that people can't come in the house for 2 months while I'm flowering cause of the stink......

In the last 10 years or so, I've basically only grown from seed just cause I didn't want to have to open up another too just for a mother plant or two. I do have my eye on 1 plant though right now, early finisher, yield looks strong, covered in resin at less than 8 weeks- I sometimes keep 1 alive to grow in the next grow just in case its special but since I had some mites this time, it will be a total destruction of everything to eliminate issues next time.

I don't have allergies, but I don't smell the "weed" smell anymore. When I ask certain buddies what a particular plant smells like some of them will say, "It smells like weed" and I'm like, "What are you talking about? That smells like berries and sweet cream. Can't you smell that?" and they'll say something like, "I don't know, I just smell dank weed", ha ha. It's pretty funny how used to the smell of weed you can get when you're around it every day.

That's too bad about the mites. I deal with them fairly regularly in my veg room, but they tend to not be a problem once I take the plants outside for flowering. At least you'll have a little extra room for the next batch of keepers you grow from seed. What are you thinking of growing for the next round?

You say don't touch while flowering? You don't do any defoliation after flower starts? And are you against treating for mites? Green clean is pretty natural and safe, and I'll use azamax before flowering that works great.

I know defoliating is a loaded topic, but it is odd how your buds are drastically less fat below your layer of fans on each bud. I'll admit I'm a noob when it comes to experience but I sure do love reading. But it has me wondering if you trimmed those if they would continue to be fatter.

Hey Riki.......after this many years, I tend to not even notice the smell anymore. The only time I do is when I'm out for the day or days, when I come back in I definitely smell it. But day to day, barely notice it at all anymore. When I hang them to dry, that's when I really start to notice them, at least the first couple of days. How u doing buddy, all is well? I'll need to catch up with the Hawaiian thread!

JohnDoe- if you read the whole thread, you would have seen I sprayed the plants once with Forbie 4F just when I turned the lights back to flower- that is my normal procedure. That spray should have lasted around 40-45 days. I work hard cleaning, disinfecting, monitoring, etc for mites in every grow. I've been mite free for a number of crops, that's why I was surprised to see them again. I'm convinced they come in the Pro-Mix, and now I'll be doing a neem soil drench early in every grow. Whatever effect they will have this time, if any, is minor. I've lost entire crops in the past. With only about 1-2 weeks left, I'll be doing my most thorough cleaning in a long time and have already bought new pots, tarp, etc. to start over fresh.

Regarding defoliating, it is a loaded subject. I believe it's strain specific, some strains do better with it, others less. I regularly pinch off dying or diseased leaves, and bend downward large sun leaves that are blocking buds. But unless you defoliate early in flowering, it will reduce your overall yield- of course, others will disagree. If you looked at my last grow of Zombie Virus, now that is a strain that would need a constant defoliation- I even mentioned that in a post, I wish I had done more. This crop, not so much. This strain doesn't put off a lot of sun leaves also, so it would have been counter-productive I think. G.G. #4 strains get their weight from the rock hard buds, not the mere size of the buds I believe.

Just for an update, I looked through the room today- the most done plants are about 80%-90% cloudy but I still don't see any amber other than a single trichome here and there. I expect to take about 50%-70% of the plants down by next Thurs (9 weeks flowering) and the rest by week 10. I may even take a bud to test in the next few days to test, I can't help myself! And I'll again mention the hard buds, like bricks- super solid, quite amazing actually.

Well none the less looking great! I probably admitted somewhere in there that I am a noob, and strain isn't something I was really thinking about. Just finishing up my first crop and they were some bushy girls.

Edit: so I could understand some strains needing more or less

Today is 55 days flowering, I chopped a small pice on a lower bud which was about 85% cloudy, 14% clear and 1 % amber trichomes........I'll quick dry in a food dehydrator for a few hours, smoke report up later tonight. It's a week or so early but it should still be effective considering it's the first time I'm smoking it.

The first couple times on a new strain is always best! For me the true test is if it will keep doing the trick when you don't change it up!

Yup......this particular bud though just wasn't as far along as I first had thought. No taste or smell obviously since I quick dehydrated it but it was good- all sativa like in effects, and very long lasting but definitely needs more time to finish up. I only took 2 small puffs off the Roor, and it had gained some moisture back (not dried enough) while sitting there on the table.

Sorry for the slow reply. Things are good and busy over here. I've got both my greenhouses running on my first real rotation so I'm pretty stoked to see how a real cycle goes with them. I've got one greenhouse flowering while one is vegging. I'm planning to let the vegging greenhouse veg for 7 or 8 weeks and then flip to flowering so I'm pulling tarp every morning and evening. It's been some long days, but I'm stoked to see my plan come to fruition.

How's things going over there? How's the grow been going in the last week?

Hey Buddy, day 61 today in flowering.........I was really planning on taking down some of the plants on Thurs (9 weeks) and brought out a strong flashlight and the microscope today, looking for some amber in the trichomes.....and was disappointed with what I saw. The plants that look REALLY done, very little if any amber could be seen while a few plants that don't look nearly done are showing some amber already. Either way, on average I would say most of the plants are about 90% cloudy. There is some variation though. The stink is full on right now, the wife brings it up everyday. We went to the vet today and she was worried the dog stank too. LOL I found that very funny when she said it. Funny though, I don't smell a thing. LOL LOL I promised her I would look into Dr. GreenThumb's "Incognito" strain, which is supposed to have no smell- for Xmas time this year.

So, at this point I think I'm going to just wait and harvest everything at 1 time at 10 weeks. It's not my preference because it means a lot of work over a 2 day period (actually 4 days if you include cleaning and starting the next crop), but it looks like my future.

Again I was impressed with the tiny bud I took and smoked last week. I left it in the bowl and once or twice I hit it in the next few days and caught a good buzz- it just wasn't "developed" yet but I can see by harvest time, it's going to be top shelf shit for sure. I've already mentioned the dense, rock hard buds. Yield will only be average at best, but a nice bud to leaf ratio means an easy trim.

Plants are yellowing now, as I've greatly reduced the fertilizer and will probably cut it off completely from now on.........but I may add a bit of molasses this last week.
