Looks like a good start. ..
I've had 5 bins for a couple years. Started with a 1000 or 500 worm bag, easily 1000+ in each bin now. One bin has dried out a bit this winter. Never bothered nesting bins together or making drain holes, guess I've gotten lucky.
Filled mine with clean junk mail, brown paper bags and brown cardboard that's been through my cross cut shredder. Watered until damp bit not wringing wet... worked like a charm.

OK heres a few pics of some ideas I had, I put the mesh around the top holes and also on the bottom bc this will be my bottom tote, with a lid under it to catch the juice. I don't want my worms escaping into the juice collector! Still deciding what I'll use to separate the first bin from the juice tray! Was thinking some chunks of wood or something.

The sprouts growing in the same pot, I've never seen that either and I wonder - might they compete with the root space of your plant?
As someone who's ran into this issue...its true. My alfalfa grass roots did interfere with the root of my cannabis plants. It only didn't on my no till grow of fabric pots over 7gal+. Not scientific as some would like...but after I pulled the roots CAREFULLY they busted with growth again!
