Got mold?

I got a couple of plants from a buddy and they both have a little white mold on the soil.
Do you guys know what kind it is?
I've been told it's bad but I'm not sure if it will correct itself if I just leave it alone.

I would think its mycelium.

i get it sometimes after top dressing with chicken manure but it doesn't look "thick" like that so im not 100% positive.

Mold IS mycelium. The question is if it is a good type or a bad.

Are you using peat moss? I get what appears to be this kind of mold on my bales of pro mix (peat moss) quite often. Their website states that it's not harmful provided it doesn't become so large as to cover the soil growing surface.
