People have unprotected sex and they know that is bad for them, could be said about COUNTLESS activities that humans engage in that they know is bad for their health. Your imponderable question about why we eat more calories than we need has been answered with just as many valid conclusions as the one you draw. You offer zero proof that fast food makes people OVER CONSUME. You keep saying noone can answer your question (because there is no ONE answer), while you yourself can't prove that the fast food industry is to blame.
Your sex comparison doesn't work on any level (and as is stated, unprotected sex is not necessarily "bad for you") There is not one other "valid" conslusion as to why we eat more than we need to NOW, in this entire thread. NOW is the key and one that every arguer to the contrary ignores. There was a period of well over 100 years when food was adequately abundant enough for people to have grown fat, there was a period of 70 years or so when people could be sedentary because they were within a society that might support such a lifestyle. People were not growing fat in the 50's or the 60's. No one here has been able to explain why they started being more hungry or less active only in the 70's and more so in the 80's.

And neither have you, you put forth a SPECULATION and then somehow felt it's our job to disprove your bullshit. The world don't spin that way, you need to PROVE your position, that's the burden of putting forth the conclusion as you did. But you can't, which is why you keep beating the question to death. Prove it or drop it.
I asked a question, it has yet to be adequatly answered. The FACT is that we grow fatter and the FACT is that this trend started in earnest in the late 70's.

were not just getting fatter because of health food chains. were getting fatter for many many reasons. One being technology. Computers have lead a way into our social lives so much so that we (children mainly) dont get out and do anything. from texting to computing and dare i say video gaming, weve all become accustomed to a way of life that makes us lazier. Ever watch Wall-E? thats a movie about where were headed if we dont start doing something about it, which is exactly why the NFL sponsors "Play 60." Theyre trying to get us active again by getting our kids out and doing something in the sun instead of throwing a touch down with our thumbs.

dont get me wrong, i LOVE video gaming, always have always will, but these are facts. Sure Mcdonalds doesnt help, nor does Taco Bell or Del Taco etc, but we have all become lazy because of technology advancements. its on T.V., been in written reports and so on. hope this helps. ;)

Finally, someone with a little common sense who understands that the choice of eating more calories than you burn is what makes you fat, not TV commercials and fast food restaurants.

who watches commercials anymore anyhow? With DVR and TiVo, i never see a commercial. not even my kids except when theyre watchin Disney or Nickelodeon. Even then its a toy commercial times 10! The commercials i may happen to catch are previews of next weeks showing.

Where i live theres hardly ANY adverts on billboards except in the business/industrial districts.

That's a very nice little rant you gave there, with absolutely NOTHING to back up your assertion to the contrary. Then you actually chastise the OP, as if you had somehow successfully disproved his statement. This ain't the forum at Huffington Post pal, you aren't surrounded by barking seals applauding any negative comment directed at a Conservative, take that weak shit down the hall to the kiddy table.
I think the OP has the burden of proof on his hands. I do not need to spend my time proving a retard wrong. Go open a restaurant, it does not take two years. I could get one open in a month if I pushed. You and the OP can live in La La land all you want to. It does not change the fact about the OP being a Parrot. Which is absolutely correct. How about you go and prove the OP's statement, joker? I can tell you that you cannot. Come with some facts. You gave a nice little rant, with absolutely NOTHING to back up the OP's assertion. Fuck off, Republican joker. Everyone can see through your party's bullshit. You guys are just too caught up trying to defend all the lies you parrot to everyone. Laughing my ass off at the crazy carolina. What a joke.

So you respond with the exact same tactic. You marginalize the Op with no evidence. Then you make a blatant LIE about how fast you could open a restaurant or you're an idiot with no concept of what you're talking about (I'm guessing it's the latter). Then you marginalize the Op again as if you've somehow made a valid argument again. Would you like to go for a third fail in a row. Like I said, this ain't Huff Post, take that kiddy shit over to MSNBC forums, this kind of stupidity would make you a star there.

As already stated, you asked a question that you yourself can't answer without anything but speculation. The FACT that we grow fatter and the FACT that it started in the 70's doesn't make your conjecture that fast food is to blame in any way valid. Your conclusion is no more than an opinion with no supporting evidence. You can dismiss every other answer, it still doesn't make you right. And I think WE'LL go ahead and be the ones who decide if the question has been ADEQUATELY answered since you OBVIOUSLY believe any answer other than yours is incorrect. You argue like a child, any relation to hazorazo? Maybe we need to check your age like DukeTroll.

Yet I showed that we take in a few more calories each year than the previous year. I cannot claim that we excercise enough but the fact remains that if we were to eat comenserate to our level of excercise we might be out of shape but we would not be FAT.

You still imagine that choice is all powerful in today's society. Just because you and I are able to excercise what we believe to be unvarnished absolute choice you believe that all people at all ages and all backrounds have that same measure of volition.

I will take any answer, it doesn't have to be mine. So far no one else can explain the facts. Although the poster explaining that compter technology made a valient attempt, he doesn't explain why we don't simply eat less to compensate for our excercising less. Other than that, again, Why now?

Even if my children do happen to see an advert for such companies as McDonalds or similar, i as a parent dont give in to their "needs" as long as those needs are fast food. sure maybe once in a while when its convenient and were pressed for time (which is hardly mind you) then yes sure, McD's and toons. However, my kids are just that, kids and cant just drive a couple miles to our nearest fast food eatery. Kids dont get fat on their own whim, its the parents that allow their own children to become lazy, game addicted, no sun seeing drones that they have been come to be known as in todays society. Dont like the facts? well, im sorry but it is just that...fact.

Everyone has a choice. Your kids are put in front of the TV so you have a babysitter. Some people don't let their children watch TV, some children are too busy working their fingers to the bone on my farm for no wages that they don't have time for that shit. Child labor laws do not apply on my farm, i work em as soon as they can walk. Only thing is i don't give em any wages, I provide room and board is all, they love it here.

Family farm, we grow veggies like corn, squash, cucumbers, carrots, beets, turnips, radishes, tomatoes, onions, cabbage, lettuce and potatoes. We also raise some chickens and rabbits. We have a couple of goats and a milk cow too. make my own power and sell the excess back to the utility.

Everybody in America knows for a fact that fast food is bad for you. Everybody in America knows for a fact that smoking is bad for you. Leave people alone and let them make decisions for themselves. Worry about yourself.

We should be more worried about how the US government now doesn't want flu research companies to publish details citing "terrorism" as the reason why Americans should be kept in the dark.

No one ever talks about the guy who lost weight eating only mcdonalds food.......

Its not what you eat, it is how much you eat.
