I saw this idea on here a couple months ago. This is a splendid idea, and I hope it works out. How long ago did you graft the shoots? Are they healing nicely?

the plant in question is actually just under 2 months old. I did my first graft on 10-9-10,... then the second on 10-14-10

both grafts healed well in this instance.





I'm kinda looking for any input from anyone else who's actually done this.... is there any kind of genetic drift between the grafts since they all share the same circulation?

I've heard and first hand seen "NO" in citrus and fruit trees,.... but how's it work with cannabis?

There is NO genetic "drift" - the grafted parts retain their specific genetics.

You don't have to worry about the genes getting messed up at all. It does get cumbersome once you have a large plant with lots of grafted clones though. You need to prune monthly. Keep things labeled or you will regret it.

Awesome idea, MY next mother is getting grafted like a mofo.. I'm going to treat it like Russian roulette. Graft on strains with the same flowering time. Spin the pot and make a clone, Wonder what it's gonna be this week? lol

this is fantastic! i had seen someone try this years ago at a buddy's house, and it worked out just as he thought it would. there was no sort of "drift" in genetics, all the strains kept their respective traits when it came time to clone and grow again.

the only time you get genetic "drift" with anything is when it reproduces. Other wise everything in the ground outside would have genetic drift because their roots intertwine. Or every time you slept with a women you would get genetic drift lol

Bit off topic ...
I have 2 Mothers both LST'd ( One Clockwise ...other anti clock ).. But i tried the " Cloneing on the vine " trying to take clones direct from the mother , It failed on the two attempts i made ... But the mothers healed up pretty good ... and now are branching off like crazy ...Its like it stimulated growth .

Im still waiting to see anyone who managed to do this with MJ :)

That's something I've been thinking of playing with,.... what did you try? I was thinking just half a rapid rooter plug and some plastic wrap.

Yes , I tried the moist rapid rooter cut in half , Made slices in the stem and coated it in rooting gel , The wrapped the two bits of the rooter block round it and then wrapped it in plasi wrap , Im not sure where it went wrong as it just healed up in a large chunk , But like i said it has had a positive effect on my mothers .

I will try this again in a few weeks coz i know for sure its going to save a lot of time and messing around :)

The main point would be to have mother plants that carry more than one strain.
This is especially useful if you are a legal grower who is limited to a certain number of plants or if your space is limited.
You can then grow different strains depending on which part of the mother you took clones from.

Yep, I can acquire a new strain, graft a node onto my mother, and flower out the new strain while the new node grows in to serve as a mother rather than keeping 4 separate mothers of each strain.

I'm curious about flowering a grafted plant, but haven't had any success getting a node grafted onto a small enough plant to allow any vege time before flower :(
