greasing a fan (WD40) cause problems?

I am not sure how the fan really works but think it would cause problems greasing an inline fan. I noticed it squeaks a little bit when i shut it off. It is one of these...http://htgsupply.com/Product-GrowBright-4in-High-Velocity-Inline-Fan.asp#

If you could open it up to lube it, wd40 wouldn't last long. White lithium grease would work better. But aren't those magnetically driven?

sewing machine oil is the only thing you could use but i dont recomend it as it will void the warranty, if it's still under warranty take it back most fans have a 5 yr warranty

The only way to fix a fan is to replace it. Sorry

Wd40 isn't a lubricant you'd want to use on bearings. I'd go with some 5-10 weight tool or motor oil before wd40.

I have found that one can never go wrong with PB BLaster or AeroKroil, which is everything that WD40 wishes it could be, plus some... YOu should try those, and definately either disassemble the fan housing and only hit the mechanical parts, or try to hit them without getting any on or around any of the motor windings, or other electrical components... I am a journeyman wireman... Thatz how I know...

NEVER EVER use WD40 for things like that. I screwed some fans up before I knew what it would do.
Especially small fans. If its expensive to replace, then either sewing mach. oil or something meant for small bearings and motors like that.

Like I say, if I even did at all, Id make sure I knew exactly what I was doing and why, and be aware of where each drop of lubricant ends up... Most folks arent that technical-i.e. just go buy another one... or they just dont have the knowledge or skill or the ability to perform such a delicate, but very, very do-able process... Your info is probly best suited for someone who grows, but may not possess more refined and practiced skill and know-how... Just to clarify my last post a bit...

And PB Blaster or AeroKroil are not anything like WD40... Different chemically, and in the way they work, and what they are best suited for... Ya cant beat those two brands... Ive seen em perform miracles too many times...

I use Kroil quite a bit, but no experience with the AeroKroil. Guess that's a spray version?

My Dayton has a hole for the oil, but then again it's a industrial fan. All we use at work.

If the stuff gets on the windings, u r absolutely correct. It will burn up. If u can keep it on the mechanical parts like bald bearings and such, and off of the electrical parts, u will be fine, all day long...

haha, thanks for the responses. After all the input i decided to do nothing (dont want to screw anythign up). It is only a minor squeak so not too worried

Mr. Ganja- Yes, Aero-Kroil is an industrial-use type of lubricant, that seems to creep all up into the tiniest of cracks, and ultra-tight places, and it's the absolute shit! We call it Kroil Oil in the field, I'm not sure if it comes in a version just called Kroil, but I really don't doubt it. The manufacturer is Kano Industries... It comes in orange spray containers, and large orange metal barrels... I use those little Dayton fan motors, amongst other brands, like we get out of UPS systems and different electrical cabinets and PLC's and VFD's and such... They do work great for growing and ventilating super-industrial strength dank, too!!! lol AND past times- Yep, sometimes the best thing to do about a situation, is not shit at all! lol!
