Great Lakes Genetics ?

TL;DR

Some customers feel they were wronged by GLG because their orders took much longer to ship than expected. Some of those customers contacted GLG at least once and either received or didn't receive a response, which added to their consternation and disappointment. Other customers expressed indifference to processing/shipping time as long as the orders are shipped completely and correctly.

Fair summary?

I wasn't sure I ought to post this publicly if not everybody got the same hookup as me but @Useful Seeds encouraged me to go ahead. I was one of the guys who ordered the Useful Chocolate Diesel s1s when they weren't supposed to be in the inventory. I hadn't sent in my payment yet when he emailed me about the problem, so I said no big deal just take it off my order and I'll send out less money. A few days ago, I got a surprise package from GLG.... a free pack of ChocD f3s for virtually no inconvenience. I kinda felt guilty almost. Useful just told me that DragboatJ bought extra packs of f3s out of his own pocket to make up for the mistake. I don't give a shit if my seeds took some extra time to arrive. GLG ( @Bad Dawg ) rocks in my book!

Hello everyone. I made an order from Great Lake genetics on feb 15 and sent the cash in mail on the feb 16. I messaged them a couple times because my order has been saying on hold for weeks. I got an email from someone there and they said that they haven’t received my payment. Does this happen sometimes ? Is it scetchy to send cash in mail ? Like they are supposed to be very reputable so I don’t belive they made a mistake unless by accident the cash was misplaced or something. I’m just looking for some info and experience around this situation. Thanks for you time and info

You should send payment in a usps express mail envelope. They provide free tracking. Don't require a signature because the package won't be delivered.

I've never had an express mail package lost.

I've never heard of any reports of payments reaching them and then getting lost. As Greg said, a tracking number is the way to go... you didn't get one with the way you mailed it? Hopefully it didn't get swiped somewhere in transit... the payments do have to make it through Detroit.

Agreed with what other folks have said, I've sent cash before with no issue. Tracking is key.

On another note, I finally received my most recent order(s). I suspect they may have gotten the message from people who complained that they'd sometimes schedule shipment and then don't send it out for a bit, because this time my order was "Processing" for a long while, but the day after they scheduled shipping I checked tracking and it was already on its way.

And as always, such a great deal. Wow.

Just recieved my order from GLG. Super happy with the service and the free schwag was pretty sweet also!

It took 3 weeks total from the time I mailed in my order to arrival. Compared to how I used to order seeds 15-20 years ago this was a pleasure.

Definitely will be a returning customer.

Suck. I’ve sent cash in no tracking like 3-4 times with no issue. Maybe I’m tempting fate but I wrap it and my orders are never huge. Hope it’s just delayed and it gets there.

Living on the edge I guess. The way I figure it...I’m not worried about Great Lakes ripping me off, like at all. (Some other banks...yes) If the postal worker decides to make an envelope disappear I don’t think it would matter to much with or without tracking. If it does go missing with tracking what am I going to do...make a claim that they lost 150$ in cash. Great luck showing proof of value. Plus the time and hassle of actually trying to collect. The only thing tracking does is tell me that if it goes lost who’s fault it is ( and I know already it’s not glo) I figure eventually my savings in the tracking will equal an order so if one goes missing it all evens out. I guess some people get comfort in knowing where the envelope is at all times....but I don’t care. It either gets there (99.9% chance) or it doesn’t. I like those odds.

The post office handles millions of letters a day, and even though they only lose a very small percentage, that amounts to a lot of undelivered mail. Not all of it is stolen. A lot of it simply ends up somewhere it isn't supposed to be and becomes a "dead letter" which gets shredded and burned. The post office simply isn't going to go to heroic measures to deliver a 39 cent envelope. There is a point they will simply give up.

Priority/Express has a much lower rate of loss because it is tracked throughout the system and it is always re-routed. It even comes with $50 of insurance against loss (you don't have to prove what was in it).

So yeah, it's a good idea. But regular first class is still effective.

I started thinking about skipping the tracking expense after a couple of orders, but I figure the tracking will discourage any rogue postal workers, since the postal system knows who's working, where and when the package went missing. It seems possible that a disgruntled postal worker on the Michigan end might catch on that a lot of cash payments without tracking are heading to the same spot. I might send a smaller money order that way but actual cash with no tracking seems a bit too risky for me.
