Great looking plants...weed not so great

So what does a plant need to get SOME smell, flavor and kick...... if she won't talk to you. For real, my plants look really good, green but not too green..... tips up with a tickle of burn...... frosty dense nugs...... but it just barely takes the edge off. Sooooo.... heres the recipe

Recycled Happy Frog
R/O water from dehumidifier
vermicompost tea
- vermicompost
-- coffee grounds w/ filter, banana peel, egg shell and all of the trim, shake and fluff from previous plants.... and same worm colony since 2020
- dried rose buds
- 1 cup of compost, 1 dried rose bud, 1 gallon of water and brew for 48 hours or until it looks like iced tea
Molasses
Maga Crop part A
- 5-12-26
Blackstrap molasses

Early veg - worm tea
Late veg - worm tea, molasses
Early flower - worm tea, blackstrap molasses, Mega Crop
Mid flower - blackstrap molasses, (heavy) Mega Crop....... resulting in a little tip burn
Late flower - blackstrap molasses, Mega Crop

Jury is still out on flushing since last plant I did no flush and it was better...... still shitty, but better


Watering occurs with a good splash 3 times or more daily

Genetics. Nothing you feed will make it more potent.

Genetics plays a major factor but there's way more to the equation.
2 people can grow identical strain out the same pack and one come out fire(top shelf) while the other is not gd.
U can't turn bad genetics gd but u can alter the end result with grower experience.
For example I think I see a seed in the photo. That can take away from plants energy it needed for more terps. Even tho there is gd weed with seeds in it. Just making a point. He might've had heat or light burning trichs and flavor off. Or he could be overusing molasses which some say plants will stop making sugars if u keep supplying it.
Gd genetics + avg grower = ok smoke
Gd genetics + gd grower = great smoke *
Bd genetics + avg grower = Bobby brown
Bd genetics + gd grower = gd smoke *

More micro nutrients, so you can develop all the good terpenes.

Maybe calcium and magnesium because you're using distilled water. Maybe sulfur because everyone says it makes weed dank. And maybe the other obscure micros because your leaves are turning purple and yellow with pink veins.

And more good organic stuff like humic/fulvic acid, amino acids and enzymes to make sure the micros are absorbed by your plant.

I even notice a difference in nutes used

bottled nuts the bud can be totally different flavour I’ve had cuts coz I liked smoke I had and never grew out like I smoked
I had orange terp from humbolt gave it my mate he grew it out n got a sour smell I loved but yet I hated my orange strain lol

organic never flush ya kill ya soil

I used essentially the same mineral salts/kelp/fulvic with my last two grows, 8 different "strains." Two of those have truly incredible, potent, fresh terpenes, the rest don't. You really need to seek out terpy strains (and individual plants), especially if you buy the fotm super frosty crosses-those are usually the most flavorless plants. Overall, I think a lot of the popular "breeders" out there have sacrificed terpenes for frost/bag appeal and they just keep recycling the same flavorless genetics. I don't understand the mentality because for me effects and terpenes are what I look for in quality herb.

Out of the same pack, doesn't necessarily mean anything. You can get 2 totally different outcomes from seed.

Well since I'm looking at a picture of a whole plant I'm going to guess that you're just sampling some of it before harvest. If that's the case, a quick dry and smoke won't at all be like the buds you, properly dry and cure. The drying and curing process is what helps the smell and flavor profile. Also depending on how you're treating your samples the properly care for buds may be more potent. I've experienced similar things, so not just what I've studied but firsthand experience.
Maybe if you expand more in this area and explain we can crack the case haha.

I totally agree. They like kids. One can have blue eyes the other one brown. One can love the environment and the other finicky. Both from same parents.

Now that I'm looking at this again I am also wondering what the full plant looks like. It doesn't look ready yet to me and the tops usually mature faster than lower portions in my experience.
Also just wondering, was the seed intentional? I definitely have pollinated on purpose but if you didn't something must have happened here.

I literally destroyed multiple mothers by feeding bone meal to them. Even the cuts were ruined. Made seeds.. Ruined. It took 2 or three hours to destroy years of work. Smells completely turned to weird ass dispensary terps. Flavor was unbearable. Effects non existent. Buds were pretty though?

How do you think evolution works? If genetics was just genes, and environment had no effect, all plants would be identical and we'd all still look like monkies too. Actually we'd all look like microbes. God didn't create OG Kush. He created Cyanobacteria, from which all plants evolved in their own ways due to environment/nutrition and the mutations it causes.

Potassium and sulfur are main nutes people lock out that affect quality. If your leaves are crusty at harvest, like every grow on the internet, sucrose is stuck in the leaves (potassium) instead of going to the buds and making flavor. You have no oils because sulfur is not making oils. You get "fresh frozen internet era" weed if you lock out potassium and sulfur with all the excess nitrogen and shit everyone uses. The crusty blue & purple stuff that cannot be cured properly, so people freeze it or whatever.

Flavor and entourage come from fats sugars acids proteins and oils. Breeding for the stupid terpenes is what has killed the gene pool. Like wow your shit smells like mangos let's cut it down and smoke it before the myrcene evaporates. 5 minutes later: Didn't taste like a mango. But is smelled like one so call it Mango Kush.

Genetics is 100% the answer here. Just because they came from the same pack of seeds doesn't mean they will grow the same, especially with the lack of focus in the industry on inbred seed lines that grow uniformly. I've grown thousands of plants, including lots of seeds that never became keepers because they just didn't have smell, flavor, or effect that I hoped for. I've been growing since 05 and have had less then 20 plants I would consider keepers, and that includes clones I've gotten from others. It wasn't because they were grown pourly, its because they didn't have genetics that supported what I was looking for or that liked my environment.

Yes your environment will impact the final outcome, which is precisely what a PHENOTYPE is. That is why 2 different growers can grow the exact same cutting of a plant and get different results. It's not because the plant's genetics changed or that one grower was better or worse. It's because the environments they grew in were different in some manner and the plant's genetics reacted to that.

Just because buds look pretty does not even remotely mean they will have a substantial effect, flavor, or smell. Those things have to be bred for, and most "breeders" aren't doing that. Shit most of them aren't even breeding, they are just pollen-chucking hype strains to sell seeds.
