great spot potential, but needs clean up, and your opinons

here is a picture of my possible room selection for my SLH seeds. its about 6'5 at its highest point, and maybe 3.5 at its lowest point. the slope is rather gradual so i have a good amount of area between the 5-6ft range for comfortable plant growing. i have plans to try 6 plants and if all goes well, id like to eventually have the "sea of green" method going on.

this is in my basement and the room NEEDS to be cleaned of spider webs etc but my real issue is the floor. not because its concrete but because the bottom part of the wood on the sides has rotted out (god this sounds worse as i sit ehre and type this lol) and it stops around 2 inches before the ground all the way around.

does this room have potential? if not, i might just make a grow tent.

no offense man but i think i see mold or a lot of dust. you are going to have to get all that out if you want to grow there. Otherwise your plant is going to have problems. I can see you putting a closet there and that will be good grow room. But otherwise you dont want a location that has spiders, and bugs or mold. I recommend making your own that way its clean and free of crap you dont need. Otherwise yes it looks like a good spot but will need some work to be grow ready.

thought itd be more work then its worth, decided im going to build a grow tent from panda film in a different part of the basement instead, will have 6 plants, whats a good sized tent for them assuming im using dirt. already am going to purchase 1000w hps and mh bulbs and ballasts etc just to be safe. whats the total area my tent should be assuming a 6ft height?

with 1000 watt you can grow about 4-5 foot square. I got a 1000 watt kit and am building a grow tent from PVC pipes and panda film. My enclosure it going to be 5 by 5 and 6 high Only thing is its hard to find the 3 way fittings, I just broke down and ordered online but if you phone a hydro store they might know a place to get em

Yep. What's the humidity there? Do you get water in your basement?

I grow in my basement, so I'll offer my experiences... If you get water down there, check your gutters. Clean them out and re-adjust the grading so that water doesn't sit and/or overflow (I had to bend mine up a little). Add some extensions to the bottom drains so that the water is directed away from your foundation.

Check the humidity down there, you might need a de-humidifier. Check your temps too, the de-humidifier will raise ambient temps by as much as 5f.

Do you have a hose hookup down there? It will make your life easier if you do. I have a 15' white and blue marine hose (garden hoses are too stiff for small quarters) and a garden sprayer that can be set from 1 tsp to 8oz per gallon of water, I fill that fucker with bleach and kill everything, shopvac the resulting mess... scrub with a deckbrush if you have to. (you mentioned concrete floors)

Fresh coat of white paint... yes paint feeds mold, but you won't be giving mold a chance to grow. Fact is, you can never get rid of mold. There are mold spores everywhere all the time, even sealed packages of cheese can't escape it. The best you can do is NOT give it a chance to grow. Do this by keeping your humidity below 60% and.... CIRCULATE AND VENTILATE. I can't stress that enough. I had moldy buds a few weeks back for the first time in 2 years, added a box fan for lower circulation and set my vent fan to run at night (nighttime humidity was reaching 75%) ...no more signs of mold.

You might want to replace that rotting wood anyway, whether you grow there or not, but that's entirely up to you. You can use a bug bomb to clear out the insects, but they'll come back eventually. What works for me is just keeping the area clean. Sweep every couple of days, mop with bleach every now and then, get rid of any clutter. Like the mold, if you don't give bugs a place to live/eat, they won't be a problem.

One more thing concerning spider mites.... They hitchhike in on pets and clothes/shoes/hands. You have the perfect buffer zone between pets/outdoor clothes and your grow. Wash your hands, keep pets out of your basement, and put on a fresh T before tending your garden, and you won't have to worry about mites

how many windows in my basement should i keep open? i have 3 that can open. i dont believe i can paint my ENTIRE basement in white coating but what bleach to water ratio should i do for the intial hose down? i have a shop vac as well. we get water in the basement, BUT we have more then an ample sump pump that NEVER lets it actually flood, as well as a back up. where id build the room NO water can get too and do i put the dehumidifier inside the grow tent or outside of it?

I can find PVC pipe fittings, just not what they call furniture grade 3 way PVC fittings made for building things with PVC. Nobody knows where to get them at the stores, I even asked about them on here and nobody knows. They just suggested I buy online

Tarps aren't light proof and they aren't reflective. So light would get in through them. Panda film is cheap, a 50 foot roll is $50 here

LOL, I did all that for a 4x4 growbox.

Anyway, I have an a/c on my flowering box to regulate temps, and that keeps my growroom humidity at 50% or lower, so I don't use a de-humidifier, but when I did it kept my entire basement at 40%. I wouldn't put a de-humidifier IN my growroom because it's too small, raises temps, and you'd have to drain it everyday (unless you can drain into your sump from your growroom)

I don't have open windows in my basement, what I meant about ventilation concerned your growbox. I don't give a shit if mold grows on a cardboard box in the opposite corner of my basement, I just don't want it on my buds

i was thinking a vent fan in the exhaust, and just a regular house fan in the tent to circulate air

well you want to circulate fresh air in at least every 5 minutes. multiple length x width x height then multiple it by how many times you want the air to exchange in an hour(12). After that divide it by 60 to get your CFM

so, i just got my seeds, now i need to just get the lights and soil/nutes and im good to go. is it bad to keep an exhaust fan of 80cfm exhaust duct fac going non stop in a 5x5x5 setup? would this provide adaquete ventilation assuming i also have a fan inside the grow tent?
