Considering how every time there is an electrical fire in a garden they blame illegal wiring, etc., not having UL is adding fuel to the media flames. However I can't install anything on this Canadian project unless it's CUL approved. UL wasn't enough. Then the inspector I was talking to told me that Canadian homeowners policies will not pay for fire damage if it is ruled the fire was caused by a non CUL listed device. Period. Trying to SELL anything that is non CUL rated comes with a $50K fine to the mfg and to the retailer that sold it. I guess UL wasn't enough for these folks they needed a CUL and from what I've already seen they take this shit very seriously.
Curious if the US homeowner policies use the same language to exclude coverage for non UL listed devices that would have caused a fire....
