Hey, hey, hey! Smoke some post some.

Happy Sunday my time.

An update on the seed rescue / seed making grow in magnificently composted soil mix.
The truth is although I have great muscle memory on watering in arid California I am having ro retrain on hydration in Illinois. The change in the weather happens a lot. Pant transpiration sadly, I am relearning here because of the different climate.
I am to blame for the damage.

I thought to add some eye candy or as it is more commonly termed, "content." Look at that Sativa looking leaf!

Growing_Roots_9_19_2021.jpgLook_At_That_Sativa_9_19_2021.jpg

Daddy was an unknown extremely up Indica looking male. I mean that strain was power-up high. Extreme is a good word to describe that strain. Smoke and then go out for a power-walk!

Mother has some interesting linage:
30% SATIVA - 70% INDICA
THC: 17.69% CBD: 0.21% CBN: 0.06%
Genetics : Great White Shark x South Indian x Super Skunk..
Effects: An instant-hitter, very stoned, bordering the narcotic.
Flowering Indoor 8-9 weeks, with a yield up to 750 gr/m.2.

These are plants from ten year old seeds.
True that they are growing in a harsh environment and still I hope they can make some seeds.
I am concerned with their well being. I have had to rethink my watering skills because of the relative humidity issues. Transpiration rates are not a given here like it was in arid California.

From what I can tell the plant energy is being spent on root growth and that is directing branch growth. I have made them soggy so that is scary. No easy quick evaporation can kill.

Under the old CFLs':

Naturally there is a limit on what the CFLs' can do for these plants and so I am happy to say I have two 250 watt HPS Hortilux Eyes on the way and if you wondered what those two boxes in the corner are well they are hoods. I have a twin 250 digital ballast ready to go and I will be converting over as soon as it is reasonable to do so. These guys still need to adapt to the new soil.
Also on the way is some kelp meal and also a fancy compost sifter. I plan on "Top Dressing" the pots with "fines" meaning a mix of sifted compost plus kelp meal, Azomite, honey and some 4-4-4 organic fertilizer. The honey is both an antibiotic and a stimulus for microbes to eat the kelp meal and organic 4-4-4. I'll do it right after I see these guys are prospering in their two gallon pots. I will then top dress then.

Well, again happy Sunday. Happy Growing.

Hey Happy Wednesday.

Man my new Home depot sure is picked over and they simply do not stock some of the common Cannabis stuff like Reach Barrier. I asked if they had Reach Barrier and all I heard was what is that with one Home depot associate simply grinning at me and shaking his head no.
I have called it reflective bubble stuff but it's proper name is "Reach Barrier."
So I ordered a 4 foot tall roll and it arrived today.

These plants seem to be doing more growing in the roots and a little in the branching but they have deffinetly taken a break with growing taller. For now at least.
I'm thankful no one else has died.

What I like about this thread is it is 100% bullshit free. You will find many threads here on RIU chock full of nothing but perfect plants but not this one. We post the good along with the bad here because let’s face it most grows do not go off perfectly. The longer you grow weed the more fucking heartbreaking shit will happen to you and/or your plants. You learn from your mistakes so embrace them and then share it with others so they may benefit. That being said here is a cautionary tale about the aftermath of hurricane Ida.
Hurricane Henri turned out to be a joke but massive flooding was expected. Was quite windy but not much rain. Pretty much a dud. Then about a week later Ida was predicted as remnants of a tropical storm; downgraded from hurricane status. It rained here nonstop overnight on through the next day; 24+ hrs of torrential pouring.
In just one day Ida had turned my basement grow areas into a swamp. 2 inches of standing water; took several days to drain out. We usually get some water in the basement with very heavy extended rains but we never had seen the floor fully covered in water. Was so humid down there we took out all the weed jars and stored them elsewhere temporarily. The biggest problem was there were plants finishing in the bloom room that were now completely saturated. I mean I shouldn’t complain; some poor MFers lost everything they had so guess we are lucky.
All plants appeared healthy at the time but we did not realize that bud rot had seeped in: powder mold, AKA cobweb mold was rotting the bud from the inside out even though the colas looked fine from the outside. It wasn’t until I started finish trimming that I found shit like this:

01D3FF0D-0BF2-470D-B410-80A1ADBCB9A0.jpegD911B2F0-7597-4D08-8317-447B35B51050.jpeg
Not a total loss; only the biggest corn cob donkey dick colas were affected. Everything south of 3” from the tip of the spears was fine but I put it all into separate jars just in case mold begins to set in. I’m almost afraid to just put the lids on...still kinda steamy around here these daze. Looks like an epic BHO run is in the not too distant future...
So growing big ass buds comes with big ass responsibility... I’m going to STFU about growing big ass bud for awhile. I’ve been pushing others to try monster cropping for years but maybe it’s not always the best idea. Monster cropping can increase bud mass but also introduces a bunch of issues that would not be otherwise. Thank you that is all. Peace :peace:

To new beginnings...

On the back i have the regular plant i germinated weeks ago, which it's a female (bad leaves are from wind damage). Want to take some clones from her. The other half gallon pot is a Jedi Kush clone i bought and for my (bad) surprise, it came with thrip damage.

In the solo cups, there are 5 feminized plants: 3x Kannabia Afrodite; 1x Kannabia Mataro Blue; and a last fem seed from a local breeder.
Rest are regular seeds from another local breeder, two different crosses/strains, some Karma Genetics and Bodhi Seeds parents in there.

@Richard Drysift

Indeed sharing is caring.
I'm in a whole new realm where humidity is a serious factor. I appreciate your sharing.
When we share we help untold numbers of others with their grows.
I don't know about you but I grind my bud through a screen and enjoy wasteful long joints. I would want to hit bits of bud to be very conservative but I love the smell of a joint of even burning ground bud.
Still sorry for your mildew.

I look forward to seeing your grow.

Interesting genetics:
Like most Jack crosses, Afrodite is a sativa dominant variety with a strong psychoactive but also relaxing effect (thanks to the Black Domina, which also helps shorten the longer flowering time of the Jack). [\quote]

Forgot to mention that Afrodite and Mataro Blue will go outside for outdoor season here in South America; but i still have 2 Afrodite seeds that i surely will grow indoors.
I was reading about those two strains and I can tell Mellow kick-back/lightly trippin' seems to be what those two can do.
It would be interesting to cross those two.

Pretty sure our PM problems have gone away with all indoor grow areas now bone dry; did not know such products existed tho thx.

Believe me the wife is at home Chong-ing it all day every day while I slave away at work. Thankfully we got plenty of mold free dank in the jars and next harvest will be ready in a matter of weeks. Jah be praised

I looked up Chonging. You do not need to hyphenate.
Naturally it is about weed but under Urban Dictionary "Chong" is a rude term.
So it looks like the usages and meanings could be evolving in the urban usage or more simply because I saw it online I assume it is "in play." I sure hope "Chong" is not used that way for all time.
Tommy getting busted for Bongs earned him the "next level shit" in many of our hearts as they might say in a sequel to "Pineapple Express." Got to love Seth Rogen.
Much Respect to Tommy Chong and giving us a video to watch. My favorite "Sir do you have any Marijuana? Tommy "Yeah like every room in the house."
I do like the Urban Dictionary but using Chong that way? F___ THAT!.

Well it is super expensive in Illinois but this joint has been worthy.

Hey everyone happy Sunday!

Wow @JimmyJackCorn and @Richard Drysift Y'all are off to a great start!
No competition here. Also these guys are going to make seeds!
So, in the last update they were transplanted from solo cups into two gallon pots and the soil was unsifted composted things. I did not have my sifter yet so there are large bits in those pots.
Now I do have my sifter and so I sifted through one quarter inch screen and I call that "fines."
I added some 4-4-4 organic fertilizer and then have "top dressed." It is not time to water so right now it is still dry on the top of the pot but when I do water I will water with a little honey in the water.
These things are affordable for small batch and especially when a grower is limited to five plants by law.
The plant status news is good. they appear to not have suffered any trauma in transplanting. They did take a few days to start growing up again but as they grew roots they also grew out branches a little bit.
They are wanting more light than the CFLs' can give them. The 250 watt HPS bulbs are on the way.

I am starting a compost tumbler thread after I post this update so if anyone is interested in that aspect I am not going to load up this thread with all that. Check it out if you are into that sort of thing.

I still don’t know why more growers are not using collected/grey water. I was literally dumping it down the drain for years. Used my house plants as Gineau pigs for like a year and since they didn’t seem to notice a change in their water I figured it was safe. Then I read that The Rev uses grey water from an a/c unit for his plants and so do many other growers.

I’m sure that would filter it better but since active living soil breaks pretty much everything down anyway it doesn’t seem necessary....just don’t drink it lol
Many larger municipal water districts have done that exact thing with reclaimed water. If you've ever seen purple pipes anywhere, its reclaimed water. When I was interning at my local water district, I toured one of the facilities where they turn sewage into reclaimed water. Was incredible. Got to watch huge ass containers filled with raw sewage get converted into water that's just as clear and odorless as the water that comes from our tap.

I think its absolutely dope that people are doing that. Not only does it turn waste water into something usable, but it also saves drinkable water for watering parks and the like.

Plenty of people use "humanure" as they call it. I haven't pissed into a toilet in years now. I piss straight into a bottle, dilute it with water, and now I have a free Nitrogen amendment. Haven't paid for Nitrogen amendments in years, why would I when I literally piss nutrients?

Shit is where things get more complicated though. If the person in question has a healthy diet, then it should be okay to compost shit. Plenty of people make outhouses with holes full of peat moss or straw, doesn't take long to get compost from that. The problem is the "quality" of the shit, so to speak.

Someone eating plenty of healthy foods can safely use "humanure" in a garden. Someone that lives off of top ramen, McDonalds, and frozen dinners though? Not so much.

As for my part of the grow-along,

I started a new outdoor garden project a little over 3 months ago. Been meaning to post another journal of my own about it, but its been difficult to find the time. Put these plants in the ground on June 20th.

The kicker with these plants? Only 15 gallons of soil in those holes. I've determined that's the perfect amount for plants out here with my native sandy loamy dirt. They get 15 gallons (2 cuft) of the peat/perlite/compost living soil until the entire 15g is a root ball. A 15g root ball is plenty large enough to penetrate the sandy/clay dirt out here, so the roots continue to grow outside of the living soil and as a result the native dirt becomes a part of the living soil due to now being a part of the rhizosphere.

I put them in the ground in late June intentionally. Last time I put plants in the ground here in April the plants grew as high as the roof, even with multiple attempts at topping and training. Legal state or not, I'll always be paranoid having such enormous plants out in the open for people to see.

The plants look like they have 2-4 weeks left in them, but I have tons of vegetable plants going that look like they'll start bearing fruit in the next month or two before winter hits.

Happy Saturday!

I found a good size pan to go under these guys and today I watered.
I have to say now that the soil has matured that it drains well but still holds moisture for the shorter girls.

They are looking good for CFLs. Very nice.
The 250 HPS bulbs arrive this next week so I can switch over to twin 250s'
Also it looks like I can try and clone them soon.

Good News!

I don't see so well these days but cameras do.
My prediction was that I have two girls and maybe two boys.
I spotted the (sprouts) plants that looked like my feminized. I believe I had two.
The other two I was unsure of except the tallest has the South Indian Pheno expressing itself. They all do a little but the tallest is the most expressive in my opinion.
So on to Sexing.

Here is a picture that if you pick the very left plant and zoom in you will see the first Female showing herself. Yes it is a zoom-in hunt but there is the pistils and calyx in a node. Yeah it's a hunt but there it is.

They joy of growing never fades with me.

This is the other tent i mounted.
Not the best scenario, both for canopy management and the quality of the tent itself. But sometimes it's enjoyable to just go with what you have or can get at the moment.

Plants are Sour Compassion (15-20% THC and 1-4% CBD) by a local breeder in the back, and a clon of Gorilla Zkittlez by Barney's Farm at the front. Bud pics are from Gorilla Zkittlez.
Day 28 of flower. Amended soil, top dressings and some waterings with KNF inputs.
