Grow Operation Planning / who here has seen Mr. Green's I Grow Chronic?

So I am preparing to setup a growing operation. I have a closet in the master bedroom that is walkin but they only finished half of it and left a hole in the drywall about 3' X 3' to crawl into the unfinished portion which is about 10' deep X 4' wide and 9' tall.
There are two lights in there already so maybe i can modify the cables to use as an electrical source so i dont have to run cables.

I have been watching Mr. Green's I Grow Chronic for a few days and I really like his setup and may mock his entire operation from beginning to finish. What do you guys think??:weed:

Not bad, he knows what he is doing, and is very clear about what he is doing. If you are inexperienced, i would do soil first as hydro is a bit tricky for newbies. Otherwise, rock out and have fun!!!!!!

For sure :) I am quite a noob myself as I have never grown with a hydro system myself. I wanna post some pictures of my plant of a year ago and tell me what you think.

nice!!! good job for a newbie!! Stick to soil till you figure a good hydro setup for you. Then do a test run while still in soil so you got it down before you convert!!!

Check out hempy buckets man! they grow like hydro but super easy, no changing res and stuff. check out the hempy collective for TONS more info lol. stay up.

The cabling for those lights will probably only be meant to run in the order of 150w or so, ok for a few cfls but I wouldn't go wiring a hps into it.
You can find out how many watts it will take by switching off breakers until the lights don't work, but I'd guess it'll run off the main lighting ring in your house.
Much safer to run a cable through and have the room on it's own separate breaker imo.

well usually the smallest size they run for a room is 15 amps, but you need to make sure that its not connected to the rest of your house first http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sjbLYNePQGA here is a vid of my opperation, its like a mini green man vid, check it out and see if you get any ideas off it, also it depends on what kind/how many lights you will be running then you can see if you need to add a circuit, its really easy

Watching that vid was my inspiration.. I watched a series of 3 from Jorja on growing and took notes from both.. and then read out here and compared notes and formulated kind of a grow idea of my own to try, but even though I am putting my room together tomorrow, he was the reason I finally said "fuck it, I can learn how to do this I think...."
I love trying new hobbies! I have taken info from the greens grow set up.. using the drip for clones and the ebb system for the flower room, but I am also using Al B Fuct's system for Sog (I apologize if it's not "his" system, but it was his thread I read and fell for the idea) and getting a new harvest every 2 weeks... I would post a link if I could.. a very long... but very informative read may also make you think about how you may want to set up if it strikes your fancy.

Just my 2 cents:peace:

you are the pefect guy to read jorge crevantes "five easy gardens". It has some killer setup for soil, soiless, and hydro. YOu should look at it before you build. After you buld and buy tents like I did lol, it is a little bit late for the build but it is cool still.

I have a 400 and a 600 and that first garden makes me envious. It is the same as mine except I have to stay legal, and grow trees. But if plant count does not matter then go for it.

I just read the "fresh garden coming" part of your post and had to say something. I have done ebb and flow and loved it.

Also I just read a comparison I gotta write about. They use a rainforest, the fastes hydro, and organic soil. They did a five issue compariosn. 5 issues. These guuys are cool. Anyway they found out you get more budsite and more bud with soil but you get bigger buds with the hydro and faster growth at some stages that evens out. So I am glad I switched to soil, I am sure though hydro still gets you more as the anecdotal evidence is huge. IDK, I bet it is a slight diference. Anyway,

I once watched the mr green videos so good luck whatever you do. I love the botanciare tray, It is worth the money.

I always thought that Mr. Green's grow op was a bit primitive but rather expensive.
I never understood why he would sink all that money into a Co2 system, 400 watt lights, Ph testing equipment and not better lighting during vegg.
If he had better lighting he certainly wouldn't have to wait 2 friggin months to throw them into flower.

The whole idea of growing hydro is speed.
You only have to vegg for 2-4 weeks or until they are about 8-10 inches tall, then throw them into bloom.
I can understand his thinking on growing the mom's for 2 months before taking cuttings.
But there's no need to vegg that long.
Plus, spraying the plants with carbonated water is kinda of dumb if you ask me.
Especially if your already using Co2 gas.

I'm not a huge fan of clay pellets or hydroton.
It's extremely dirty. It doesn't matter how many times you rinse it off.
When I grew hydro, I used diatomite as my medium.
Plus, he never talked about how he was bringing fresh air into his op.
Yea, he had an oscillating fan to help circulate the air. But I didn't see any fresh air coming in.

If your thinking of mimicking his op, I would definitely spend the extra money on some better lighting during vegg.

I wanted to add that I remember him topping his plants after the first week of bloom.
There is no need to top, In fact I'm a firm believer that topping your plants stresses them out.
When you stress your plants there's a possibility that will turn hermie on you.
I'm thinking he topped his plants because of height issues.
If you vegg just until their 8-10 inches tall, then there would be no height issues.
At harvest they'll only be about 32-36 inches tall, and you'll still get approx. an oz. of bud
off each plant.
That's if you use the strains that he was using or something similar of the same yield.

His setup works fine, if it did not, he would not have the video on there, and not everyone has all the money to buy the best of the best. people will buy what they can.

Alright everybody... today I started my grow room... i installed two fluorescent 40w t-8 ballasts and constructed a pully system for easy raising and lowering of the lights.... i have mylar on the way and will install as soon as it gets here.... my seeds are done germinating and i have 2 cracked full moon seeds feminized, and 3 cracked snow white seeds feminized... i put them in one inch cubes and are waiting to see what sprouts... im wondering once they sprout what kind of nutrients i should get.... i know while theyre still young i should only use 50% sollution but i really just want to go to a local hardware store or garden shop to grab the nutrients... please help.... these are dank seeds that i paid a lot of money for from the Netherlands so all responses will help....

- HAPPY GROWING

No nutes for the first 3 weeks, unless they're showing a deficiency, then start at 1/4 strength, raise it gradually every other watering or so. If you see any signs of nute burn round the edges of the leaves, give tapwater for one watering, then drop the nutes back down a notch. If you consistently have to do this after increasing the strength, try raising it in smaller increments. It will depend on the type of nutrients you use and what strain you grow how well they respond to it.
The only stuff I've used is BioCanna BioVega/BioFlores and I've never had a problem with it. It's organic so it's not super strong, but it seems to give a good balance of nutrition, I very rarely have to supplement it with anything.

When Mr. Green started, his insulation was pink. By the end, 25% of it was black.

Why?

Mold!! its bad for you!!! makes you sick!! I know!!. If you have any drywall, insulation or organic material such as wood there, protect it!!

unless you dont care, or its not your house, then go for it.

Advise: strip your walls, leave the insulation. Put up 6 mil vapor barrier and tuck tape the joints. Then put up some mold resistant drywall or cement boards.

Do a good job of it, if its your house and you sleep there with your kids, id protect them.

you can get any of these things in any hardware store.

Some people will say its overkill, but if those mold spores get into your house, and you kids breathe them in, they will get sick.

its simple:

humidity + organic material = mold

mold + you = sick

i use an ozone generator. In addition to smell, this kills all mold . That is in fact one industrial application. Mold killer. ;)

Alright guys here are some pictures of what im working with at the moment.... as you can see there is no type of ventilation at all set up... can you guys maybe throw me some ideas of how to fix this... i need to build a system :blsmoke:

I would need to see the rest of the house.
Or at least know where this room is located and what other rooms are near it, above it, etc.

Basically you need a constant flow of fresh air coming in.
Preferably coming from a nearby room that's hardly used like a pantry, or closet.
Then you need to exhaust your grow room into an attic, chimney, or simply out the side of the house.
I'm guessing your room is about 6 wide, 8 tall, and 10 long.
Which is about 480 cubic feet. You'll need at least a 480 Cfm blower for your intake.
These size intakes can be a bit noisey, which is why it's important to attach it to a room that's hardly used.
Then you could go with a 300 Cfm blower for your exhaust.

Then all you need is a couple of osciallating wall fan's to keep the air inside the room moving.
