I need some help wiring my grow room, its got normal 120v outlets in the wall. ill be running six 600w hps lights, what should i do about these outlet and what kind of ballasts should i get 120v or 240v. should i change all the outlets in the room to 240v and how many amps? i have one free dryer outlet but its not in my grow room. very new to all this.

Its kind of a bitch to switch 120v wiring to 220v. I would say get the 120v ballasts unless you know what you're doing.

Probably, yes. You would likely have to get some extra outlets in there. Always remember that even if a room has like, 4 outlets, most of the time those 4 outlets all go to the same single circuit breaker. Try to estimate your amperage draw on a per-room basis and not a per-outlet basis. If worst comes to worst, if you have the know how, go and wire in a couple extra outlets to a new circuit or too. If you dont have the know how but you have the cash, call an electrician. Say you're putting in a sound studio or some shit.

To estimate your amperage draw, take your watts and divide them by your volts.
You have 6 600w lights, so 3600 watts, divided by 110v, gives you 32 amps.
If you switched to 220v, you'd only be drawing about 16 amps off that circuit, which gives you room for more lights later on.

Fastillion just hooked you up with the amps so now you need to know what all is ran off of the probably 20 amp breaker that runs that room. Usually a 20 amp breaker will run a couple of rooms. If you do not want to have to get your detective on you can just run a sub panel to that room, and you would be in complete control of everything. It is really not that big of a deal to do either. You can look it up on google or youtube.
