Grow tent in Barn - how to control temp?

Swamp coolers will add to your humidity.

Don't buy a 900w LED , LoL

And don't get a Gorilla tent for your first time. You could use real materials and make the $ go much farther.
Great advice...as I was eyeing the Gorilla tent haha. So even with dealing with all the humidity, home built tent ftw?

i would just buy a couple 2x4s and frame up a room real fast. even if you don't know how to do it you can youtube it and it'll be pretty easy. you can add your insulation and then put that black and white poly. now you have a durable, strong, easy little room that can handle the weight of the equipment you'll have, plus it'll be insulated against the unstable conditions that you'll likely face in a barn. i'm telling ya, you won't know what can go wrong until it does...

i had the nail heads inside my building with droplets of water on them once i got my humidity up. so then i though i needed more airflow in the attic, so i cut a gable vent, even though i already have a slit vent down the apex of the roof and i have metal corrugated roofing. the night that i cut the gable vent it was really windy, and cold wind ended up getting down my walls and was blowing through my electrical sockets. here is a lesson for you, orenative. when an object is colder than the dewpoint of the air in which it resides, water vapor will condense onto the object. so, when i had cold air blowing through my walls and through the electrical sockets, the air cooled down the sockets, and the sockets reside in my grow room which is nice and warm and humid. the sockets were sweating like crazy!!! that's also why the nail heads were sweating, because the tip of the nail is closer towards the outside where it is cold. that cold is conducted up the body of the nail to the head, which is sitting in my grow room, which again, is nice and warm and humid.

i'm telling you these things because i'm imagining that at some point your grow room will be nice and warm and humid, and the temperature outside will be cold and you will remember my warnings about moisture and dew point, temp and humidity.

believe me, it is was cheap and easy, i'd have over thirty stalls filled and operating. but it really is worth it to do it right, that way when the construction is complete you can truly enjoy the gardening and not have the worry about environmental parameters. but at the same time, don't spend all your time and money planning the grow room and never actually get to growing. remember, you can always make something better the next grow, but you also don't want to spend this whole grow regretting that you didn't run that power line, or put that shelf in, or put a waterproof liner on the floor...

take it from experience, especially with barn growing, you're going to want to do it right, but do it quick and easy. hell, i'm sure you know this already, quick, easy, and right are the barn way :hump:

Jeezus.

This guy over complicates everything.

@Orenative
Word of advice, take all of the advice on this forum, mine included, with a grain of salt.

Common sense prevails.
huh .....u are crazy i am accused of over simplifying everything

just because i think about abcdefghij does not make it over complex it just accounts for all the variables i can see .....would u rather the guy build it hit the problem and then lost 2/3 weeks of good growth on the plant because he over looked something

sure the swamp cooler adds RH but with a high enough fan does not matter and i accounted for that with a 8/10 inch because barns can get up to 100 inside easy.....he is not going to get a mini spilt or a ac (portable ac are crap ) so how is the guy going to cool it on hot days u got anything other then buy 100s of bucks of equipment

can not get a HID using outside air .....i warned him i like over power ..... 900w is over power allowing him to use a bigger area with same light so not throwing away or not using it anymore

sure lets spend 100 bucks by a shit tent and replace it in 6 months ......instead of getting something good that last ......those cheap tents are well made and do not fall apart from heat/uv/light exposure because the plastic they use for the corners and brackets are complete shit .....increase the chances it falls on his plants crush and break the stalks

your the kind of jackass that convinces ppl to buy the cheap crappy gear so it stock piles up as they go to better stuff
i got 3 ballast here 1 tent shell(well 3 shells because the metal and the corners were crap) listening to ppl like u

read the tent info
all the crappy cheap tents are only listed for 35/45 lbs of gear anything more and it breaks faster.

secret jardin ....is 70lbs
gorilla tents .....is 300 lbs

I'm pretty sure I told him to do it right, and to take all advice, especially yours, with a grain of salt.

I mean seriously, you told him to time his waterings by the second. I personally wouldn't take advice from you...

Besides, I recommended to forgo the tent and build a space. Tents are for buildings with environments control. this is a barn, no environmental control. Therefore you build a room, even if its a small one.

And I dunno what kind of barn gets to 100 degrees, seems dangerous to the animals intended to live there. Jeesh.

You're honestly suggesting a gorrila grow tent, and 900w LED, and a 10inch blower for a beginner, in a 4x4 tent? Get the fuck outta here!

The only people on this site that give you any attention or credibility are the noobs who don't know any better! Everyone else thinks you're a joke, at least I do...

He needs to have a room before he can cool it. Beside, barns run fairly cool by design, not 100°F like you've suggested.

And, its easier to control a properly built and insulated room then it is a tent, made of fabric, sitting in a barn stall. Let's be realistic here...

You suggested he spend big $ on a tent that can hold 300lbs. Three pieces of wood screwed together can hold 300lbs, lol

This ain't my first account here, nor is it my only account on the forums... Nor is this a popularity contest. You think I care about likes or who is following me?

Once again, the only people who give you any credibility or attention is the newbs on the forum. Hell, half those likes and followers are probably them...

Orenative, sorry for the thread jack but I see this guy giving poor advice quite often, I had to say something...

he wanted a tent i tried to talk him into a room but his choice
the tent he was looking at was a decent one would of out lasted him with just little care (the design of the tent is well thought out port placement numbers window side access)......i would of told him secret jardin but with it in a barn odds were he would us the tent itself for mounting most of the gear so the fact it holds 300lbs is sheer safety knowing a carbon filter gains and loses some weight do to the RH in the area.......those cheap ones will flex and crack never had one that did not break (and i kept under the weight)

i made one account and been here in this section most of my time learning every aspect of this .......i have honestly lose track of the number of rooms i have helped build internet/in person .....my crazy head makes me good at this because i ask "what if" all the time think of a trouble and how to fix it

i am not giving poor advice i am thinking .......the cost of buying something 1 time little over powered allowing u to move into a larger area u want is cheaper then buying 2 sets of gear
(the one using now and the one needed for the upgrade)

the only reason i am even debating with u is to prove the point ........it is better to spend the money and get good gear then spend money on cheap gear (cheap comes out to expensive in the end.....i know i made the mistake did not listen to someone telling me what i told him ) .....i listened to a U and got fucked with about 800 bucks in gear does not get used or broke outright

as for the cost of a LED i can get it cheaper then u can because i thought it out and tracked down a maker that is willing to sell 1 light or 1000 at the cost the retailers get them for ....the price mark up is huge u would pissed to know it ........the light i tell him will do everything from veggie to flower to UV

u still never answered the cooling ? u say it is a trouble but offer no help on it what the fuck good are u then a swamp cooler with a frozen jug of water in it and a high speed fan with good exchange rate the room will be cool and fine the RH will not get in danger zone unless slows down the speed of the extraction .....maintain negative pressure by just using a slower intake fan so the exhaust is higher

in a 5x5x7 is 175cfm

a 6 inch fan is 400 cfms so that is once every 30s rough......with him using outside he should go larger encase the air gets hot the higher volume of air will help cool the tent if it is going tho a system to cool the air

6 inch 400cfm intake
8 inch 700cfm exhaust
speed controller can go on both allowing him to keep target temp ...keeping the tent from con caving to much under negative pressure

May I recommend a water chiller and some of those ice boxes. I'm a fan. Allows you to air cool lights and tent. Plus if you do hydro that too. You can cycle air around cooling it too. It's smaller and less electricity (depending on size) than an a.c. but I also have one and 4 ice boxes bc I found them on craigslist for 80 bucks for all 4. So I have a bias. I looked into it after I saw a YouTube video of a company making a huge manifold situation with it all, which of course I thought was rad
