GrowBoxTempRegulation

I've been monitoring the temperature in my growbox soon to be grow-show and the temperature varies greatly. It sits in the basement atm and it continues to drop below 60 when the lights are off! But, I just thought of a wonderfully simple way to solve this! What if I had a green light come on as my grow lights turned off? The green light will maintain temperature and plants won't recognize/respond to the light-keeping photoperiods on-schedule!

Tips, tricks ?

Watcha think?

How big is your box? You can get a heater for $40 and a t-stat for $20 and your low temp will never move. I personally don't like the green light idea just cause it goes against my no light at night brainwashing. If you do want to use the light then stay away from coated bulbs cause under that coating is a normal bulb and light can pass through. A l.e.d. light will be your best bet for not affecting the plants but not enough heat lol. Heres what ya do super cheap, put that exhaust fan on the same timer as the lights and get yourself a duct booster fan at depot for like $30. Add the cheap fan inline just after your main fan. Cheap fan runs 24/7, nice fan runs with lights. Basically your air change over will drop quite a bit at night and heat will be more stable. This idea is dependent on you having ducting, if you don't, go buy a nice fan speed controler with set points for day night and minimum speed. Their pricey but well worth it.

60 at night is not a problem at all. Keep it simple.

Anything near "frost" temps are a problem... but you've got nothing to worry about.

My GrowBox is a gutted refrigerator (stealth) I'm just trying to maintain 68-74(it's ventilated). Lights heat it up and in their absence it cools down significantly. I think if i stuck a green bulb in there I'd do ok. I'm going to be raising auto's anyways... So I don't know that it will be much of a prob if light gets thru. But I don't want a 24/0 cycle til the last 2 weeks. Do you know if there are any green CFL's that aren't simply coated? I appreciate all input, thanks much.

I got it! A ceramic heat bulb for reptiles no light and you can get em in like 50w- 75w sizes. Probabaly the smallest one you can find will be perfect.
